Default Another great header question....

I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for...

I was going to buy a used Comptech header from GSR*LUDE, but his is off of a 00 GSR and I have a 94GSR. I contacted Comptech and they said that if I used the 00GSR header, I would be a little short getting to my cat.

Is there a way to make it fit?
Thanks in advance....

You can measure the gap, and have a muffler shop weld in an extension on your cat-back the size of the gap. Doing so will move your cat up enough to make the connection. The hangers might be a little tight being pulled forward and all, but they're tough.

It shouldn't be more than 3-4 inches.

The '00-01 GSR header is the same length as the '94-01 LS, itr header...differences being that the header is longer and that the O2 sensor is located in the header vs. in the cat...so you're going to need to shorten the exhaust a couple of inches.

What if I got the 00-01 comptech exhaust as well??? would I still have to modify anything or is that cat still in the way where it is mounted right now?

Anybody consider doing or done this?
Thanks

Not sure if the cat is the same length, but other than that it should work fine.

This may not sound like the answer you want to hear, but I'd just sell the header and buy one for your application. The price you pay for the muffler shop to relocate the cat converter etc. you could just sell your header and buy one for a 94-99 GSR. By the way, did you get a 4-2-1 or 4-1 header? 4-1 would be better for a GSR then a 4-2-1.

Thanks B18...I haven't actually bought it yet, I was waiting to buy it until I found out some of these answers. You're right though...I should just get one that's made for my car and not worry about it so much!
Thanks for all of the input guys.

Another option you could take is to buy the whole system and put in an aftermarket cat (with exhaust shop to weld in flanges) to replace the tiny one which comes on the GSR. Better flow.

I have a 95 GSR Comtech header for sale $150 plus shipping. I made 183whp and 134lbs ft of torque. Small dent on bottom from my car being too low, but I dynoed with the dent and never have had a problem with it. I now have a DC 4-1 and will dyno as soon as I get my new pistons in.
