Default annoying...

a few months back i was having some boggy-ness issues. (more so at the top of my rpm range, it kinda hit a point and wouldnt keep pulling) figured out it was a gasket leak in my cat. converter. couple months went by, started feeling a little boggy again... it threw a CEL code, figured out it was an old dis. rotor. (i replaced the plugs, wires, dis. cap and rotor at the same time) now, what do ya know? it's doing it again! this time, it's extremely boggy directly after i punch it. it feels like it takes forever to even get to 6K (out of 8) rpms. i cant really put a finger on it... any ideas? thanks guys

Any CELs? Are you sure that your VTEC is engaging? (I'm assuming the VTEC presense by 8K RPM redline.)

First off what are CELs? It sounds like my car when I ran my fuel controller too lean. My car would bog out pretty bad. But it would kinda pick up at the higher RPM range. Could be something along your fuel line/injectors.

CEL's are Check Engine Light. they are a code that is something in the car telling the computer that it's not right; you hook up a code reader (obd1 or obd2...etc) and it'll tell you a trouble code. then you can look it up on a list that translates it into lamens terms. most schucks or auto parts shops have loaner code readers that they will let you use while at the store...i just used one today to find my codes.

On my OBD1, you just count flashes of the CEL light, no reader necessary.

almost yea... im just confused, i can't even really tell if vtec is engaging. it's almost like im too used to my car or something. I don't have any CEL code's though. Last time I pulled my spark plugs out, the ends did look like it was running a little lean. I just ran fuel injector cleaner, and that made things a little smoother. I dont know, we've been having a lot of rain up here in Maine, I know sometimes it causes cars to run boggy, but this feels pretty bad. One idea... could it possibly be my timing? I haven't had a valve adjustment in the 25K miles that I've owned the car, and I'm assuming the guy before me didn't do it either (he hadn't changed the plug wires after 125K, they were from 1996) thanks again for the help.

you can tell when you need a valve adjustment by the amount of chatter your valves give at idle...what do you mean your spark plugs looked lean...describe what you saw (ive seen people misdiagnose spark plugs ALL too often). Grab a timing light...check your timing at the crank...

I'll check again tomorrow at work just to make sure and let you know what i see. I'm not hearing any chatter, so that makes sense... it's actually gotten a little worse (the boggyness) in the day since i posted this message. idle is fine, and I have no CEL's yet... man this is annoying.
