Almost Flatlined by a Semi
Damnnn.. Is like a nightmare that won't go away. There's a UPS hub that has a 1 of the few roads that are torn up in ny so usually I'm gunning it from the first streetlite all the way 2 the end. Is about a lil more than a 1/4 mile. My boy just got his accord vtec out the body shop so he was happy 2 get the engine roarin again. We both took off down the road which is a 2way street and he was hoggin the right side. So I jumped on the left and hit about 70 mph about 30 feet away from the red light. I started slowin up I had enuf time. Out of nowhere this semi makes the left and come straight towards me. I hit the brakes and e brake. I had a good 7 feet b/w us. Then dis guy decides he wants to keep driving and try clipin my fukin bumper. I threw my car into reverse and went back and he kept after me. I thought he was playin but he gunned it lol I 180'd and drove home quietly. I even lowered my radio lol. That **** was no joke. I'm a idiot for driving on the wrong side but goddamn he didn't have 2 come after me... Right...

Really! Does it actually help to pull the e-brake for maximum stoppage? Doesn't that counteract the effects of ABS and reduce your stopping power to that of a civic?

heh, i really doubt it. Have you ever seen someone use the handbrake for better braking in any pro racing? And for stock cars with stock brakes: have you ever seen brake tests on Autoweek or other shows using the hand brake?
I think using the e-brake along with the brakes takes longer to stop, unless you are very skilled and don't make the wheels lock. When using your e-brake, the most common thing to happen is that ur tires lose traction and it takes longer to stop because you are skidding.
I believe the fastest way to stop is the way autox drivers brake...heel-toe (engine rev match braking) braking with the assistance of ABS.

do not **** with semi's. EVER. haven't you seen that old movie where the guy gets chased around by a semi that he passed?? that movie was made for a reason. if that guy clipped you, who do you think would be at fault? YOU. you were in the uncoming lane, he can always say that he was trying to slow down, but didn't wanna slam on the brakes and jackknife the trailer. then the cops would look at your young dumbass in a rice box (i can call it that, i own 2 rice boxes
) and who do you think would get in trouble? YOU, again.
semi drivers get PISSED, here are my own examples:
once i had to cut in front of a semi on a county road because i forgot that my lane was turning into an exit and cars were slowing to a stop there. i jumped in front of him with only a couple feet to spare and gunned it as i was switching into his lane so i wouldn't get hit. i exited at the next ramp and he was headed in the same direction, so he kept creeping up REAAALLY close to my rear bumper while we were sitting on a jug handle...a minute later he finally backed off.
at a different occasion i was driving from work and a coworker who didn't know directions back followed me. she had to follow me as i changed lanes to exit and she unintentionally cut off a semi, he then swerved toward our lane and passed within 1-2 feet from mine and her cars as we were slowing down.
besides, it coulda been some other small car, don't do stupid **** like that. and no, it's not possible for a teg with stock brakes to slow from 70 in 30', heck, not even my Evo can do that, and it has shorter stop distance than Ferrari Enzo from 60mph (yes it's true
)

i disagree, i believe heel-toe downshifting is for keeping the RPM's up so you can pull out of the apex of the turn with more power (stay in the powerband). best braking would probably be achieved by braking as hard as possible while maintaining traction, and keeping the car in line.
i sometimes heel-toe downshift while i an exiting the freeway, but i'm just practicing my heel-toe, i don't think it stops me FASTER though

correctomundo. engine braking (with or w/o a downshift) might help you to make brakes last longer and fade less, since it adds to overall brake force. BUT you can only slow down as quickly as your tires can grip, and the last variable isn't determined by engine braking after a downshift (using heel n toe or not).

Well...to me it feels like i'm stopping faster when i downshift and brake at the same time. But then again, i haven't tested and ran numbers on the 2 methods. When i think about it, engine braking might take traction from the wheels as well. Some day when i'm bored and have nothing to do, i'll test which method is better (probably won't be anytime soon though).

wow, you are quite a moron for street racing, let alone doing it onto on coming traffic. i hope you enjoy the integra forum, because it doesn't sound like you're going to have that car much longer with that carelessness and reckless behavior.
