ABS question...need help!
Since i bought my car almost 3 years ago it has been making this "BUZZ" noise for about 20seconds after start up(noise comes from under the hood). The original owner said that the ABS "something" had bad wiring and the dealership advised him to just leave it because the brakes still worked great. Well, i've come across an ABS computer module for really cheap and im wondering if it will really fix the problem. Have any of you had this same problem before? Thanks in advance!

dont worry about the buzzing noise...all integra's and the newer preludes have that buzzing sound once you start up your car...its just the abs system....if your brakes are still working good, why spend more money?!

My '95 makes that buzzing sound as the accumulator pumps up when I start the car. Does the ABS light come on? It will if it takes too long to pump up. Later Integras (98??) had a different system.
I think the ABS computer won't do anything for this. You'd need to replace the ABS modulator or the accumulator. But don't even do that if it isn't throwing any codes.

well, this is what happens...
...i turn on the car and 1 second later the ABS starts BUZZING. The brakes work fine and everything but it continues to buzz for about 20 seconds or so. Then right after it stops, the ABS light comes on. Anyone know whats wrong???

Sound like your accumulator is having problems pressurizing. However, the first thing you should do is check the ABS code. Get the code and see what the problem is.

you need fluid, the light will come on from the fluid.
see the grey cap below the cylinder there, open that **** and put brake fluid in there.

You might also need to change the fluid; it's 9 years old now, so it might have too much moisture or contaminants in it. If you main brake fluid is original, you should change that too.
The buzzing is normal, but it should only be for a couple of seconds. The light is coming on because it's taking too long to pressurize, or isn't succeeding in reaching the proper pressure. Look also for any leaking fluid underneath the ABS motor unit. The other thing that can cause this is a bad seal on the ABS accumulator (the metal cylinder).

Can you replace the seal at the bottom of the accumulator?I drive an 1995 and there is some fluid leakingat the underneath side of the metal cylinder!!!!

thanks alot for everyones input and advice...i'll try putting in the brake fluid tomorrow and see how that goes...if it doesnt work, i guess you'll be hearing from me again for more advice. later!

Yes, if there's fluid leaking, you need to replace that seal. That brake fluid is under a lot of pressure however; you need a service manual to see the full procedure for depressurizing the system and detaching the accumulator.

hey my brother's 97 accord ex v6 has that same thing! freaken annoying. He said the honda dealership wanted $500-700 to fix it.
Screw that!
but his abs still works though..... i think?
let me know if you still wanted that one black abs box in the engine bay that sit above the ABS resivior.

well, i added a shitload of brake fluid and started the car to see what would happen. the buzz came on for like 2 seconds, then stopped. but every once and a while it'll buzz like for a quick second while im driving. so either theres a leak or an actual problem with some of my hardware. im gonna drive around for a few days on it and see if i can figure out which one it is.
Charlie, i'll get back with you if i can figure out whether or not i need those parts. Thanks again!

That sounds normal; my '95 has been like that since it was new. There's a bleeder screw on the ABS unit, right between the accumulator & the fluid cap. Get a hose that fits tight on that nipple & stick it in a bottle. Open the bleed screw just a little bit, to relieve the pressure. A couple spoonfuls of fluid will come out, maybe with some air bubbles. Close the valve as soon as it stops. (Next time you start the engine the pump will run longer.) Check fluid level after it pumps back up, maybe add some if you need to.
Be careful not to open that bleed screw too far. The fluid's under pretty high pressure, high enough to cut thru your finger if you really open too far.

mine does this also... but only every now and again... start... 2 sec laster, BUZZ for 3 sec... then thats it. My ABS never comes on or anything.
i thought it was the fuel pump until i figured out the sound was from the engine bay

After recently rebuilding my ABS system a few weeks ago i'd STRONGLY recommend that anyone with ABS do a fluid change every couple years. My '90 never had the ABS portion of the brake fluid changed, probably not even before I bought the car and it showed when I tore the old parts apart to look at them. There was scale and gunk buildup on all the internal parts of the modulator. It was still working fine but I had a leak at the pressure switch and the pump was running almost continuously and was wearing itself out. On the G2s it's not that hard to depressurize and drain the system, so some of this could apply to the G3 as well. To depressurize the system I cracked the banjo bolt on the high pressure hose just enough to where the pressure would bleed off safely on its own. After the pressure bled off I removed the bolt fully and let the fluid drain out. Most of the fluid drained out this way but some will always remain in the accumulator, you'd have to remove that and shake the rest out, but a partial fluid change is a lot better than none. When I refilled I was worried about bleeding the system but no fear, I pulled the pump relay and jumpered two of the terminals in the plug to kick on the pump. The fluid level in the ABS reservoir slowly went down as the system bled itself! I knew the system was bled when the pump got loud. Not sure if the rest of the brake system needs to be bled with this procedure because I had to do it anyway since I replaced my modulator.

It's bad enough when ABS doesn't work... But it's kinda important for your actual brakes to work!
But not all ABS has it's own fluid. My '98 Accord ABS doesn't have separate fluid. When you flush your brakes you're flushing through the ABS, and that's good...
