Default 97 RS problem .. need help pls

Hi i'm new to the forum. I drive a 97 Black RS and the most stock teg you can find except for maybe an aftermarket deck. Nice to meet you guys and girls.

ok so i have a problem.. I was driving around the city last night when i notice my car starts feeling jumpy. it feels like when lightly but quickly push on the gas pedal and release it .. you get a slight jolt right.. well it did that from gears 1-3 from 1k RPMs to about 3.5k RPMs.

So i get to my destination .. park and do my thing. 3 hours later i get to driving home and its fine for about 10 minuits then the problems start showing up again. BUT this time as i keep going the problem gets worse.... NOW my car idles at 400 RPMs where it normally idles at 900 RPMs. when i press on the gas i get hardly any power at all and it feels jumpy. Also it sounds like the engine is mis-fireing and the exhaust smells like raw gasoline. When im moving too i hear strange sounds like metal hitting something... its a *tink tink* sound every now and then. And the engine light turned on and when i'm over 3k RPMs it flashes at me... im really worried.

I checked my air filter thinking it was plugged.. it wasnt that.. it was somewhat clean.. not bad enough to clog.. I wiggled around the spark plugs and the plugs that went into the distributer thinking it was a bad connection and its not that. I have absolutely no idea what is wrong but i'm afraid to even turn my car on now.

Please tell me what you all think and some advice will be really appreciated. thanks.

Sounds like what my car did when it started running on 3 cylinders. It would randomly lose power for such a moment, making the car feel like I quickly let off the gas and then hit it again. It got worse and worse until it was only running on 3 cylinders all the time, and then a day later or so, on 2 cylinders. It was my spark plug wires, which I replaced and it's fine now. Try pulling out the spark plugs wires one by one, and if it's working, you'll hear the car's idle go even lower. If it's the bad one, it won't affect the car if you pull it out since it's already not working anyway. If you run the car like that, unplug the injector of the non-firing cylinder so that it doesn't get flooded with gas. Also, try swapping for a good wire from a friend or something cause it's quick and easy before you try other stuff (like the distributor).
