Default 92 Integra Ignition Problem

Push starting it works great, Just doesn't crank over on its own. All accessories work fine. Replaced starter.

Any thoughts?

So either the ign. switch, CIL switch or starter relay [5speed] AGP switch, [auto].

Do a bypass jump to confirm starter is working... https://honda-tech.com/tech-misc-15/...mp%5D-2961164/ 94

check your engine and transmission grounds to body, sand them down and retighten... had this happen so many times....you can take a jumper cable and connect it to the transmission and the other to the battery negative and try to crank it. If it turns on or tries to then you know you have a bad ground.

Check to see if the little plastic button is still present on the switch on the clutch pedal arm. The button is about the size of a dime.

I just fixed a similar issue on mine. The bracket on the transmission that the negative battery cable grounds to was rusted. Cleaned it up and suddenly all my electrical gremlins were gone!

A bad chassis to engine ground, [main ground] would effect more then just starting, [starter motor].

With that said, redoing your main grounds can't hurt and the older the car the greater the need to redo them. 94

So I was plannin on doin the bypass and checkin a few of those options you guys gave me... I really appreciate the quick responses btw!!

Saturday before last, my harmonic balancer started wobbling so I think the woodruff key sheared off. Gonna pull it off this weekend and see what the issue actually is.

Just wanted to touch base and show my appreciation to those helpin out... will keep you updated on my progress and ask for help as I go.. I am kinda new to fixin cars. I have replaced the harmonic balancer beofre as well as the starter and alternator... also the power steering "hose" (hardest of them all) This, however, is the first car I have ever worked on to any extent. I love it, greatest car I have ever driven. So I need to get it in tip top shape again.

Another issue in the meantime, is my average gas mileage has declined by a few MPG (27 city, 29-30 hwy to now 24 city, 26-27 hwy) in the past year... any thoughts on that?

The fuel mileage drop could be a lot of things on cars of this vintage. First, have you done any throttle body/intake or fuel injector cleaning recently? Simple things like a dirty intake/filter/throttle body can easily cause inefficiency and a drop in mileage. Also, any idea how old the O2 sensor/cat convertor are? If they are original and not in good shape anymore they would def cause an MPg drop. If the O2 sensor is bad then it is going to send your ecu signals causing it to run significantly richer than necessary. If the cat is old and starting to fail, it can become clogged by its own membrane and restrict exhaust flow thereby choking the engine and making it less efficient and using more fuel. Also check for any exhaust leaks while looking over your cat and O2; if the O2 is functioning normally but you have an exhaust leak (even a small one) this can also throw off the ECU's seen a/f ratio and cause poor fuel mileage.
As for the original problem, when you turn the key to Start position what does it do exactly. Do you hear nothingness or do you hear some noise? Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to ON still? When you turn the key to Start can you hear a relay click? Also when you put in the key and turn to on, do you still get the chime/beeps or no? This will help diagnose.

Well as said in the original posting.. all accessories work..

When i turn the key everything is normal up to the point of ignition. Normally it would click as i turn further to try to crank it over, but there is no longer that last click before cranking.

My issues were often solved with a new battery. Also had a problem where my crank pulley was worn out. Alternator wouldn't get a full charge.

You could have got a bad starter. Pretty common theses days. Try directly jumping the starter from the battery.

^ sad truth. I got a new starter motor from Advance a few years ago, it worked properly for about three days.

UPDATE

Up and running again, finally got the woodruff key I needed and everything back together. Gonna run some of those tests this week and let ya know... After dealin with gettin all the belts off and on and the crank pulley and pin installed... I don't wanna mess with it anymore for a minute lol.

As far as the bad starter... I just replaced it a month or 2 ago and still never started... I feel like that isn't the issue, though I will still perform the tests recommended to find out.

I have found some ignition switches (harness and all) online for pretty good prices and I am curious about how difficult it is to install. Obviously if and when I go that route I would youtube it as i have with everything else i've done on my car but if its really simple... and since its relatively cheap... might jus do it to rule it out.

What do you guys think?

Also B20 thanks for the advice, I will check those things out as well!

UPDATE

So I found out that the piece of plastic on the clutch pedal that presses the clutch interlock switch button, is no longer there... no idea when it came off or wher eit is... If I wedge something in there I get that final click.. but still no crank.

UPDATE

Changed out the ground cable on the battery and the lead on the positive line, the cable was in great condition still. Changed out the ground from block to frame.. got a new battery.. and voila it starts when I turn my key.

However... now the gremlin has moved to my brakes...

My car makes this sound HERE when I push on the brake when the key is not in the ignition. When I let go of the brake the sound stops and my radiator fan turns on and the only way to turn it off is to put the key in the ignition, turn accessories on and then it turns off and I can take the key out and be done

I will create a new thread for it, but figured anyone subbed to this one could take a shot at it.

Thanks for everyones help!
