is the tranny full of fluid? low fluid level can be the cause this problem. is the clutch new or are you using an old clutch kit? also try cleaning the IACV for you idle problem...

something to do with setting the clutch height. it's in the manual about setting the height so the car will start and reverse. something to do with the clutch pedal reaching a certain level before the car will start, it may be related to that.

was the car level when you filled it or jacked up leaning? It may just have too much fluid in

it was jacked, my haynes manual said 3.25. i think thats alot when the engin only holds like 4.5, would over filling the tranny make it not go into reverse when the engine is running? it just grinds. i just dont wanna have to pull the motor back out, thats a pain in the ***, it still has the 91 manual tranny since the engine came from a 97 automatic.

The 91 tranny takes 2.2 quarts. With trannies, you'd be better off having 2 quarts in there than 3. Overfilling them is not good.

800 rpm idle is fine, and the only 2 lines/hoses going to your tranny are power steering fluid to the VSS.
