Default 9005 conversion installed

noticed this cheap lighting up grade a while back and finally did it. Thanks to PatrickGSR94's link (<A HREF="http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm
" TARGET="_blank">http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/...htm
</A>) that made it a very simple process. Most people may say just get HID's or fog lights, but I would try this first. I used the 9005 sylvania silverstar bulbs and it they work great. Matter of fact while I was out i was next to a new Escalade (which had HID's) at a stop light and my lights were showing things better than his. so if your cheap with crappy headlights give this a shot.

As long as the 9006 bulbs you are modifying do not use too much wattage it ill not melt the headlight harness or housing.

I would have to disagreed on the 9005 conversion silverstar...i did it and its not all that great....I compared it to my buddys s2g...and s2g's HID just killed my 9005 conversion...nothing in comparison...put me in shame...

Well no one ever said this conversion would be HID's the shame. Why would you ever compare a halegon bulb to a xenon bulb?

Now compare your silverstars to OEM stock bulbs. It's look alot better. This mod is worth it in my opinion. Anything is better than stock.

What wattage bulb will cause problems with melting and so on?

Usually those cheap "hid" look bulbs draw more wattage. I have heard cases where they melt the factory harness. I used some factory replacement 9005 and they work just fine. Brighter than the stock 9006.

Just for reference, but the conversion is not legal, since the law caps low beam bulbs at 55 watts. However, I don't know how you'd ever get in trouble for it.

I've seen some bulbs rated as high as 100 watts. I've avoid anything much over 65, which is what factory high beams are.
