87 integra suspension
ok it must be cuz im new to honda but i have never owned a car that didnt have springs up front jus shocks. this makes me wonder about lowering the car who makes lowering kits for my year. and also i need to know if there were alot of changes in the suspension from 87 to 90 and what parts from a 90 would fit on an 87?????
Try searching in the suspension forum here: http://g1teg.org/phpbb/ Good info there.
86-89 Integras have the same suspension setup as 84-87 Civics. Front Torsion bars and rear solid axle. You can get rear lowering springs, but to lower the front, you need to turn the suspension bolt on the torsion bar tubes to adjust it. Nothing else is necessary to adjust. The problem is, is that the car will ride like crap since the only thing controlling the front suspension is the struts and torsion bars, the lower you go, the less strut travel you'll have.
Well I just replaced all the struts on my 89 Integra. The front is definitely easy without the springs. It takes about 20 minutes a strut when you know what you are doing. I did not find that the torsion bar on my car offered much support to replace the lack of spring, however the ride is decent , especially after the new KYB's were installed. Before I would bottom out on the drivers side front strut.
The rear struts are not that much harder that the front. Basically support the car under the jack support locations forward of the the rear wheels, by jacking the whole rear end up under the rear axle bar. Then loosen the top stut nuts, lower the floor jack under the axle beam and remove the stut and spring. Th erest of the caris supported with jack stands on the jack support locations forwar dof the rear wheels. Anyway, nao need for a spring compressor on this car. This is nice for maintenance.
Not real sure about adjusting it down. I would think it would not be the best of ideas unless you have super stiff stuts, as the car already has limited travel with the OEM struts. You don't want to worry about bottoming out all the time.
