Default 1990 integra ls engine

I just bought a 1990 integra ls with a siezed engine because it was run without oil. Do i definately need to replace it? if so, what are my options?
do i need to replace it with the exact same one?
what are some good used engine buying tips to make sure i don't get stuck with someone elses problem?
thanks for any help,

you could rebuild the engine, but for less money you could replace it from any non-vtec integra from 90-2001. Your 90 had 130hp, the 92-93 had 140 and everything after that was 140-142hp. You should be able to find these for about $600 or less. Other options, a b16a from japan, only 1.6L but with vtec and much higher redline, less torque but 160 hp. Also you can put a H22 prelude engine in. And then of course you can put any GSR or Type R engine in. Try these sites or do a search.

umm, I can't remember any others right now.
or try http://www.recycler.com and <A HREF="http://www.partstrader.com" TARGET="_blank">http://www.partstrader.com

Do a search and talk to some people that have done swaps and see what they like best. Some of these engines are more complicated to install than others.

i'm currently doing the b18a to a b18b swap. you got a few options. the cheapest would to get a b18a/b and do a direct swap. and build from there. rebuilding a siezed engine isnt always the best way to go. you could have problems you wont see. you could also do a swap to a vtec engine. something like a b16a would work nice and give you a little more power. something like a b18c would be a good bet too.

thanks for the info. I've been looking through private party listing and have found some engines that i may be interested in.

the one that caught my eye was 1990 prelude si 2.0 with 68K mi. i guess the guy was in an accident (the engine is fine) he's selling the whole car for $600

would this engine fit with minimal mods

thanks again,

If you got the money, get a b18c1. The b16a is good too, but I'm not sold on swapping b16's into Integras.

carefull with the prelude engines. there often times much heavier and larger then the b18/b16. i think(ie not sure) that the 90 was a 2.0 engine. i would look for a integra/civic si engine. though the prelude engine would have more torque

I'm not sure, but you might need to worry about if the engine was obd 0, I or II.

If obd doesn't matter, I'd suggest a newer b18b if you plan on driving it for a while. A 94/95 is going to have from 100 to 140k on it and will be in need of a rebuild in a year or two.

thanks to everyone for the input.

I found a guy that has a b18b head and b18b block that he says are in good shape.

could i use his head and block and everything else off my siezed engine and end up with a good reliable engine?

do i need both the block and the head to make this work or is there a chance that the head on my motor is still fine?

thanks again for the input,

I doubt the rings in the sized engine are good. The rod bearings might be bad as well. If what the guy says is true, and the engine siezed then your head should be okay, and the block should be able to be saved by having it honed (someone correct me on this if I'm wrong)

You are better off getting a whole running engine because if you pay someone to assemble the engine for you you'll wind up paying alot in labor.

I friend of mines is also in a same situation. well his motor isn't seized, it fucked up (dont know the details) and wants to swap a B18C1 in his 2nd gen LS integ. Seems like this is a rare swap, since I can't find a lotta info on it... I think this is what he needs:

GSR motor (duhh) lol
ecu from any vtec obd1 civic or integ
wiring?
axles?

will the GSR motor bolt up to the 2nd gen integ chassis? late.

Blah, get a b16a it can be in the car with transmission for under $1500 vtec rules!

Pull that POS B18a (<--this coming from someone with a 'lightly massaged' b18a) and loot it for parts, the dist, head, injectors, ecu, and other small parts can be sold to recoup some of your losses.

GreatWhite,

If you are in Kalifornia, do you research on the smog issue. I also have a 91 Integra and I was thinking about doing a b18c swap. After doing some research, I found out getting a swap to pass smog check/visual is not that easy.

One more thing, if you go vtec, you will definitely want to get a vtec tranny. Expecially if you get the b16a. You will be slow. The b16 produces much less torque but makes up for it with tighter gear ratios. With your b18a tranny (which is poor even for a 1.8L you will be slow as hell. I'd suggest going with a b20b/z block (from a CRV not a prelude) with the head from your b18a. That'll make good power with a few bolt ons and will produce way more torque than any other swap candidate (except for the prelude H22). You could probably find a b20b/z block for under $800
