Who makes a H23 piston (hopefuly forged) thats compatible with FRM sleeves?

I'm looking for a set for my H23/Vtec. I dont want H22 pistons as they're too high compression for turbo.

if your going to use stock sleeves then go with mahle they make low compression pistons that your can use in the swap. if you sleeve the block then the opinions are endless from cp, wiseco the list is enless

Im putting the h23v together and wanted to know if the squirters are that important?

I can just bend them right?

Do i really need them? I understand that they will help with longevity but blah looks like a pain in the ***.

I hear h23 are bad for high rpm is this true?I have a h22a4 block with a spun bad rod bearing and i hear theres no way of fixing the crank.Would it be better to but a h23 cranks and rods in the block or just use the whole h23 block

They're not too much of a pain. Install them, then get some long nose pliers and bend them while they're in the block. That way you can rotate the crank to see if anything's going to touch.

I just hope they dont want to move back after they get hot. (havent started my h23vtec yet).

Here's a picture of one of the oil squirter nozzles thats been bent to clear the crankshaft / rods.

Here's some pictures of my build - I've labelled all the parts that need installing from a H22 onto the H23 block for people looking to do this themselves.

In case anyone's interested, here's the oil restrictor you need to remove from the H23 block in order to run vtec.

You can see my full build here:

^^Nice Pics. Did you also check the squirters after the pistons were installed? The bottom of the piston can also hit the squirter.

Thanks Rosko. Sure did. The motor went through quite a few full rotations to check that everything cleared properly.

I will start off with some back ground on me. I have recently in the last few month really got into cars, and more than anything hondas. So if this question is dumb i apologize. I have a 96 honda accord, and been wanting to do a motor swap from my f22b2, and wanted to upgrade to a h22 at first. Though i found stock h23 full swap. So i bought it, because of reading what all the people had to say on this thread. So my question is after i'm done making it a vtec do i got to get a special wire harness for it?

13 pages of information....and you ask this?
LMAO!!!!
im on page 13 of this and most of the questions that pop up end up being answered as i read more! GREAT STUFF

FINALLY got to the end!

after reading this thread, some questions i have:

My setup will be
JDM h22 block
h23 crank
OEM Jdm h22 head
Rod/piston combo unsure

all obd1 chipped

questions:

what ecu will work. p13? tuning is a MUST right?

Will all of this bolt up mechanically?

I'll be getting some light machining done and i cant wait to get my h22 parts.

starting from a h23.

just picked up a JDM h22 and i'll be swapping the parts over through out the next few weeks. Going to send my bare block and head for cleaning/mild porting

what i've wondered is:
if i get my rotating assembly balanced, i can rev. a bit higher w/o much stress correct?

When i get the rotating assembly balanced, can i still keep my balance shafts or will it be like a double fail to keep it?

You have to use the H22 headgasket.

Are you using a thicker headgasket or something?

What tensioner are you using? auto or manual?

i am using the manual tensioner from the h23 block. and am using the h22 belt. is there a different belt for h22 and h22 vtec? cause i bought the h22 vtec belt and water pump kit. the belt is just too short. how did you do it?

It sounds like you're doing the right thing. H22's all have the same timing belt to my knowledge.

Its difficult to get the h22 timing belt on with the manual tensioner (cuz they're meant for h23's). But it does go on eventually.

My motor hasnt been turned over yet - I'm almost there though.

okay thanks. i should have found these forums before i started. we got this car for my brother and being a mechanic graduate i thought it would be a fun job for my maiden voyage. lol wrong. i usually work on 4wd so this honda work was a stretch. but we are doing a good job. almost done. it has taken 2 weeks. most of the wait was for parts. ugh. what is your h23 "vetc" going in?

ive done the h23vtec twice now. im getting closer and closer to perfection. i felt everything was done correctly. im also running the h2b kit, first installation was h22a with type r transmission. awesome build. suprising i didnt take off the oil pan when i got the jdm h22a and blew the oil pump into pieces when the rocks got sucked threw the oil pick up tube. ha picked up an h23a1 for quick replacement. did the h23vtec swap, using the head from the jdm h22a. chrome pro chipped and tuned. ran for a week, rough idle and now i can only get the engine running on a jdm h22a, barley. i need help on what to check, here's what i have checked. still dont understand what it may be or what im doing wrong.

replaced, dizzy-alternator
changed, injectors-spark plugs
inspected, compression-air leaks-spark-fuel

i step on the throttle it bogs as if to much fuel and no spark. idk what to do/check anymore. i have had this swap for 4.5-5yrs. id hate to give up and switch to a b-series now. anything helps!!!!
