Default trap speeds

hey guys, i just need an explanation on something im a little confused about.

i see alot of these turbo guys running mid 9's in the 1/4 with trap speeds of say 140 - 150. then i saw a timeslip the other day of someone in the mid 9's with trap speeds of a little under 120. whats up with this exactly? is the guy with the lower trap speed just getting better traction throughout? is a lower trapspeed with a better ET better? or am i just going in circles by thinking that the higher trap speed with a mid 9 et just mean more room for improvement? sorry if this question is a little redundant.

A FWD car will always trap higher then a RWD car at the same ET becuase of wheel spin. I think the time slip that you seen is someone letting off early.

i watched a top fuel car go 8.xx at 94 mph yesterday. what it means is the car is a lot faster and is coasting through the traps.

i see some car trap 99mph and run 13.3 in a hatch while others trap 100mph and run 14.1 in a integra. Does that mean the hatch had more traction?

Traction, weight, and driver all play a part in it.

so overall would you say having a lower trap speed is better? like the guy who is running 9's going 120 through the trap, would you say since his trap is lower that its better then the guys with 150 trap speeds?

What's better? I think your missing the point. It's not a question of what's better, the cars are ovbiously just setup differently if they both run 9's and have a different trap speed. One setup might be light with more traction and less horsepower, so it's going to get the jump and accelerate out of the hole faster, but the guy with the raw horsepower will make up for loss of traction on the top end and end up running the same ET.

Another example would be a V8 against a Honda. There is some video of a foxbody mustang against a civic hatch out there on the internet, they both run like 9.5's, the V8 gets a huge jump, but the Honda catches up at the end. They just have different setups.

that could be because of a WIDE variety of reasons:

car couldve ran lean
oil pressure drop
opponent car dropped out/messed up
etc
etc
etc

list goes ON AND ON!

thus the car let off and coasted through the traps
