Dubbed the e:concept, electric crossover a first for Honda, though not likely to ship it over to the United States anytime soon.

Last week, we reported on a new EV concept Honda planned to unveil at the 2020 Beijing Motor Show. The EV would serve as a preview for what the crew in Minato City had in mind for the Chinese market in the future. All anyone had at the time, though, was a teaser of its face, resembling that of the Accord.

Now, the concept dropped cover: the Honda e:concept. Though it does evoke the styling of the Infiniti QX50, it’s definitely got our attention. Alas, according to Electrek, it likely won’t get our cash in any form.

Honda today exhibited the world premiere of the Honda SUV e:concept at the 2020 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2020),” the company said in a statement. “The Honda SUV e:concept is a concept model indicating the direction of a future mass-production model of the Honda brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) to be introduced in China.”

Thus, no little city EVs for the streets of Beijing, like the Europe-and-Japan-only e. Instead, Honda aims to bring a bit more luxury and room to the table.

Though details on power aren’t available, the pictures offer a few ideas of what Chinese consumers could see in the showroom soon. We don’t think the rectangular steering wheel’s going to ever see production, but the center console with a long touchscreen’s a possibility. Just imagine having tons of information on that much real estate, including how much social credit each occupant possesses.

Speaking of the occupants, the concept appears to seat up to four. The sculpted front buckets aren’t too far off from reality, though they probably won’t be in the final product–too racecar, after all. We also think the production electric crossover won’t be a two-door affair, but the Japanese carmaker gets all the style points, nonetheless.

It’ll be a while, though, before the United States gets an electric iteration of its own. The deal they inked with General Motors a while back includes an EV, per Electrek. Only time will tell if a payoff comes through.
