I've seen a bunch of ppl saying how they cant get there crank pulley off of their car, the bolt is stuck dah dah dah dah dah- Well stop whining this is how to get the ***** off once and for all THE RIGHT WAY! not the ghetto way which im guilty of trying and f***ing up my own pulley so here you go.....

Also an Big Powerfull Impact would be easier but not everyone has one at home, so heres how to do it for the rest of us.

Tools Needed.
Harmonic Damper Pulley Holder Snap on Part# Stock YA6010 $65.95
Two Breaker Bars
17mm Socket (I think)
Extension for breaker bar (8ft pipe is my favorite for this application)

Steps needed:
These may vary slightly by vehicle but this is for my car 95 Honda del sol si
(01) First off insert the harmonic dampener holder into the pulley and attach the breaker bar and wedge it into the ground or frame (some place solid!!!)
(02) Stick the 17mm socket with an extension though the plastic shroud in the drivers side wheel well. (I took off the wheal to make it easier and placed the car on jack stands)
(03) Take your long *** piece of pipe onto your extension in a way you can get lots and lots of leverage on it. (counter-clockwise)
(04) Put a little bit of pressure on it and MAKE SURE YOUR OTHER BREAKER BAR WONT MOVE!!!!!!! (If it does on the next step you can get seriously hurt if your not careful!!!)
(05) Take a deep breath
(06) PUSH with all your might on that bar, (counteclockwise) alternate between Pushing on it and just jumping on it for fun and leverage of course but be careful you don’t fall on your *** when it does break free.
(07) When it does come off, RELAX! and have a cold one!
(08) Curse the midget who put the ****** in there!

ITS NOT OVERTORQED! The manual states it should be in with (I cant seem to find it right now most likely cause I don’t car enough to look) but it’s a LOT

I would also LOVE THAT methode but you have to keep in mind most ppl cant afford nice toys like that so i listed the easiest way to do it without Air Tools so the typical kid can do with with standard handtools. Even tho, on mine i had a 1" and the Mo fo wouldent come off, i ended up snapping the pos in half where the two sections were joined and had to replace the entire pully- Dident know untill after i reinstalled and ran the car and the other pully came off and messed up the power steering belt.......

I am facing some problems using a breaker bar. I ended up breaking the extension. I am not sure if the crank pulley nut is to be turned clockwise to loosen or counterclockwise. I have browsed a lot of posts and everyone forgets to mention that. It would help a lot. I have a Accord 92 Ex

i just bought a heavy duty impact wrench and used it for the 1-3 seconds it took to remove the nut, then returned it at sears...saved me SOOOOOOO MUCH time and head aches...i wouldve kept it but i really couldnt afford a $250+ tool at the time...maybe i'll go back and get it later on...

114ft/lbs is the torque spec on it. (Off my helms)

seriously the impact gun works in 2 seconds, and wont even rotate your motor slightly off of tdc. the breaker bar is asking to break sockets and ****. believe me ive broken my share of sockets and extensions

yeah i tried the socket/wrench/extension bar...NOTHING...i ordered the crank pulley tool but it took 4 days to come, so in those 4 days i juss took a trip to sears, came home, took the nut off, went back to sears and that was that...the tool then came in the next day and it helps A LOT when putting the nut back on and tightening it...

I love all my air tools, mainly my 1/2 impact and harbor frieght impact sockets!

You know not everyone has a big enough impact in there garage that thing is torqued down to I want to say 400ft/lbs I cant find it in my manual but I remember its a LOT

ok I thought it was a lot more then that, I couldent find it in my shop manual to be sure tho. Either way its more then most impact guns that people have in there homes would be able to handle.

thanks for the post... i ended up using an impact gun the size of my forearm
spray wd40 at the base of the nut and 5sec it was off

I only wish keeping the alignment on all my gears while tightening the timing belt tensioner was that easy. 1hour of frustration

try at least 625lb/ft impact... those other ones are crap.. 250lb/ft impact might work if you have a kick *** compressor but a 625lb/ft will make up slightly for crappy compressor... if you have both quality pieces that pulley nut is a piece of cake..

i got a 1000lb/ft twin hammer in reverse... got it for $120 or so from ebay... kicks ***... wish i had a different compressor but the one i have currently does the job... it cost me $30 used...

I saw one of those on ebay just the other day. If not for air tools, I'd be getting that and a nice breaker bar. If you do decide to do it without air tools, you should still get at least a cheap imact socket set. Those hardened bitches are thicker and will rarely break in half (if they do, you and the other 3 ppl pushing on the bar asked for it).

The only problem with those tools are torquing it with the motor out of the car - slightly tricky. I just used the impact to snug it on, then used a paint pen to monitor it for the first 1000 miles - no movement (or one full turn loose ).

i just use a 1/2 pry bar with a 19mm socket and a flat head screwdriver on the flywheel... works for me
