Story/pics of Osaka Motors H22 delivery
When I ordered my H22, I was hoping it would be delivered on a truck that was small enough to back into my driveway. I'm doing the swap in my garage, located at the top of the driveway. My driveway is about 100 feet long or so, and probably gains 15+ feet in elevation by the time you get to the top. When the truck showed up, it was a full-blown semi. . .no way it was backing into the driveway. In addition, I was the only person home and all my friends were taking finals. I didn't want to leave my $1700 engine in the street, so it was on to "Plan B":
1) have driver unload skid curbside (packing slip shows a shipping weight of 400 lbs).
2) Back mom's minivan down the driveway
3) roll 5 ton engine hoist down driveway
4) load engine into minivan (made sure to put down some trash bags first, to protect the fine upholstrey).
5) push engine hoist back up driveway (NOT easy)
6) back minivan up driveway
7) unload engine from van and wheel into garage.
All told, this probably took me 120 minutes and took about 2 years off my life. Very few times in my life have I been more sore (snowboarding for the first time, a half marathon, and running a 4:54 mile all come to mind). Moral of the story: if you want to do an engine swap in your garage, move to Kansas or start making lots of big, strong friends.

yep, that's what sucks about motorfreight and residential delivery..... whenever any of my friends order new engines, we ALWAYS have them shipped to a business.... my dad's actually, b/c we have tractor-trailers in and out of there daily, so all i do is get on the good ole forklift and unload it and then set that biotch in shop it's so much easier when you've got a place to actually have it delivered, but good luck with the swap man, i hope it all works out for ya

that's just freight companies for you. there's no way of getting a smaller truck there. shipping to commercial properties is much easier or if you have friends available.
we learned that the hard way a couple of years ago.
good luck with the swap. motor looks physically clean.

What was the final cost including shipping? Are you happy with the condition that it came in? As far as the pics show it looks to be in great condition. Oh, and how long did it take?

It looks like you have been doing your research. Let me know how everything goes, and btw I would strongly reccomend using your f22a1 wireing harness. Do you know anything about the wireing for the o2 sensor? I was thinking that maybe ( I have no real clue) our 92s preludes come with a non-heated O2 and our h22a's come with a heated one so you might have to do some fabrication. Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks! Good luck!

Hey Red, how clean is the motor on under the valve cover? My motor is hopefully showing up sometime this week from Osaka> Did you have any major problems besides the extreme day of manual labor? I aill be moving mine myself also but at least my drive way isnt Mt. Everest. Good luck on your swap!!!!!

I paid $1750 for the swap, $120 for customs, and $150 for shipping. The TPS and IAT sensors were smashed, but I just used the F22 ones. The O-rings in the valve cover are leaking so the plug holes have some oil in the bottom (I FREAKED when I pulled a plug and it had oil on it). I hear this is a common problem and an easy fix. The ECU was in primo condition. No mounts, axles, or shift linkages are included (probably why it was so cheap), but I don't need that stuff anyhow. I'm doing a write up on the installation with pics of the wiring mods (and yes, the O2 sensor as well). I have some of it up on preludeonline right now, but I'll get it over here soon for those who arn't members.

Re: Story/pics of Osaka Motors H22 delivery (CHK4TIX)
Yeah, I had a tracking number. It didn't have step-by-step updates like UPS tracking though (it just said "in transit to Atlanta"). The shipping company has a little online feature where you put in the pickup date, destination and departure cities, and it will tell you the expected delivery date. Mine arrived at 9 AM on the day it said it would. The semi pulling up outside woke me up. It took one week from the time payment was sent untill the motor was at my door.

Re: Story/pics of Osaka Motors H22 delivery (red92s)
so how did the paymet(s) work? did you just pay osaka for the engine, and then pay the shipping company for the customs/shipping charges? OR did you pay osaka for everything, and they paid the shipping company?

Hey guys, I am buying an H22 SOON. Can you guys let me know if you had ANY problems with them and if so, were they resolved immediately?? Do you think I can protect myself if I use my credit card??
Also, what was your total amount (engine swap + shipping)??? I have budgeted myself $2400. Is that enough??

I have found that just writing osaka an e-mail doesn't work. They rarely respond in a reasonable amount of time to their e-mails. Instead, go to their site and click on the "contact us" link, they respond very fast this way.
