Default Inside the V6 Automatic Transmission

It's a 1999 V6 Acura CL tranny. It's basically just like a constant mesh manual tranny with hydraulic clutch packs to select the gears. This transmission started slipping badly on a 2nd and 3rd shift. The 2nd gear clutches were worn down to the adhesive that bonds the friction material to the clutch plate. Normal thickness was .079", and these measured in at .055-.050". The standard free play in the clutch packs is between .015"-.045". With six discs worn between .024"-.029", that combined for about .160" total free play, and made the shifts very harsh.

With the mid case removed:

Worn 2nd gear clutches:

Awesome visuals.

How long did the trans removal and clutch pack rebuild take you? Also, I would think this same trans is in the same model year TL-S?

Removal was three hours. The rebuild was about a total of 12, but that was with cleaning everything and replacing all of the orings and some bearings. This was a '99, so it is similar to the accord V6.

3.0L v6 CL is the exact same drive line as the accord for 98-02. There are no physical changes between the two.....other than DIS and mode updates to the 4spd to TRY and correct the problems
