1997 ITR#122..... Is Dead.
Just as the topic header says everyone.
I went and met up with a friend tonight to give him a test drive before I shipped the car back to Hawaii on this coming monday the 18th. I took him to a country road where there is never traffic. Cruising at 60mph I put her into third and put the hammer down. I hit boost like normal and took her up to 8600 for the fourth gear shift. Right at the shift is when it happened. The car automaticly died and the biggest, longest cloud of smoke came out the exhaust pipe. ****. I coasted to a stop on the shoulder. Tried my cell phone. No reception. ****.
I popped the hood, my buddy and I walked around the car, looked all over the engine bay for any sign of something. I saw a small amount of oil running down the flange of my waste gate. ****. Whatever happened was indeed internal, and whatever happened just cost me a lot of money.
Everything before hand was good. The spark plugs were good (properly gapped with less than 500 miles on them) and didn't show any signs of detonation. New synthetic oil. Coolant levels and temps were normal. I don't know what the **** happened but something in the bottom end just went **** up.
Three days ago, I had a shop install new cam gears and a timing belt.
I was boosting 8lbs with occasional spikes to 10lbs. From all the research I've done, the bottom end can handle this.
So now, I own a turbo charged pile of ****. After two months of working on the car day in and day out I got to drive it for four days.
If anyone back home in Hawaii reads this, can you refer me to a shop that can build the bottom end? I also may have to sell some parts off the car to get it running ASAP. Maybe my:
Recaros
Takatas
Volks....
Bright side of things, it could have been worse. I didn't hear any grinding or any horrible noise coming from the engine bay. I checked the dip stick after the car sat for a while and there were no metal shavings on it. I'm kind of confused about the whole situation. Oh well, it's just a ******* car. I'm going to go take a hot shower and try and work up an appetite. Maybe go to bed early.

Rebuild her better, stronger, faster. Don't get discouraged, we all have our ups and downs with cars. Push through the bullshit and in no-time you'll be grining from ear-to-ear again when you rip to 9000rpms.
