Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 - newer tire, newer technology, etc.
BFGoodrich G-force sport - Good road manners, average in the rain
Kumho Ecsta SPT - a little stiff on the road, good wet traction
Fuzion ZRi - OK for an entry-level summer tire
In one of the Tirerack tests, both the Fuzion and Kumho SPT beat the S drive, yet you rank it first?

They did a few tests on the S-drive. If you go under tire testing, search by tire and it will pull up the relevant tests.. Their results are all over the place. When looking on the S-drive page they only link you to the test that shows it's awesome...hmmmm.

When I make a recommendation, I take into account not only our tests, but the things that YOU, in particular, are looking for in a tire. It may not match exactly what our tests say (at least in the surface) and you may even disagree with me. But it is my opinion, and a VERY EDUCATED ONE at that.

Example: Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs and Bridgestone RE-11 are exceptional tires. Would I recommend them to you if you drive in the rain a lot and expect to get 25K+ miles? Absolutely not. And why? Because they would be the wrong tires for the type of driving you do and your expectations. So rather than just regurgitate data based on tire tests, I would much rather recommend something that's going to work for you.

I know what you are trying to imply with your 'hmmmmm'. There is no ulterior motive here: we basically place the link for the most recent test on the tire main page. If there was some kind of conspiracy, some reason for "hmmmmm", why would we put the link that shows the Kumho Escta SPT testing at 3rd on that tire's main page, and not the test we did in 2005 that shows the tire in 1st position?

The list you quoted me on was in no particular order of rank. I was just simply listing the tires I was looking at with any comments I found online.

Also thanks cooper. Saved me some time.

I think you should consult this with good tire dealer because they are doing daily deals on it, so as per as performance concern they know what works best.

Cooper TTR- questions for you.
Are manufacturers or distributors phasing out production/inventory of some summer tires in R15? Selection has been spotty the last year or two with almost all summer tires available in the R16+ sizes, but very few in the US market under R16. Could you share some insights into this change?

I guess it is no secret (and pretty obvious) that small sizes are slowly losing preference in the marketplace in favor of taller, wider tires. As the trend continues, more and more manufacturers will slowly discontinue their tire lines in 15" for sizes that, honestly, sell more.

Luckily, there are some manufacturers still releasing new tires in 15". The new Firestone Wide Oval Indy 500, for instance, is available in 15". Certainly Yokohamas and Dunlops and Bridgestones still are. So don't fret. I think the size won't go completely out and we will see some pretty good options for some time to come.

How long would kumho spts last during under normal driving conditions?

I don't track my car or anything.

It really depends. Normally, I would say between 25K and 35K -- probably more towards the former.
