There is almost certainly a tire out there in another size that will be perfect for your use. Just answer a few questions and we can give you a good recommendation:
What kind of car is this for (year, model, version)?
How do you use it (track/autocross? daily driving? snow? rain?)?
Any other comments about what you're trying to accomplish (e.g. do you care more performance or value i.e. low purchase price and long treadlife)?

92-95 civic hatch with a mildly built b motor for mainly street use, but it does see the quarter mile track about once a month?

For 15" wheels on your car, the best tire size is 195/50-15, assuming your wheels are no wider than 15x7.
I recommend one of the "supersticky" street tires. Two of them are available in 195/50-15: the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 ($91/tire after rebate at Tire Rack) or the Toyo R1R ($95/tire at TireDeals4Less.com). Both of these will give you the traction you need with your upgraded power (and way more traction than the T1R in 215/45-15).
Don't make the mistake of thinking that wider tires are always better. The main factor in traction is the design of the tire, including its compound and tread pattern, and not the width of the tread. The RE-11 and R1R are much softer, stickier tires than the T1R, which is why the narrower RE-11 or R1R will give you better traction than the T1R, even if the T1R is in a wider size.
The RE-11 is stickier than the R1R (and is the stickiest street tire you can get). That rebate offer is only good through May 2, so if you want the RE-11, get it by the end of next week.

Re: 215/45/15 feedback?
I've had this size for several years now, had more than a couple sets of them for a reason...
On my Type C's
Polished MR5's
Circa 01' lol
CE28 TA
I personally really like my tires, especially if you hafta drive on them year round...the wet weather traction is pretty amazing. They are onviously shorter than my 205/45-16's, but for an EG...they are perfect fitment

what kind of car are you currently driving OP? with any 92-00 civic or 90-01 integra, i'd recommend 205/50/15's, nothing bigger or smaller. 16's tend to be to heavy and big IMO.
