2009 Si Tire Recommendations
So, I finally blew out one of my tires and now I really need to buy some. Car now has 30k (FA5).
Choices:
ECSTA 4X, $382 (plus S+H)
Potenza RE970AS Pole Position, $510 (plus S+H)
The RE970AS are supposedly a better tire in every way (although not by much, just incrementally better in every category).
But, the Kumhos have a better warranty, with 1 yr of road-hazard protection already included in the price.
What say you guys?

Re: I Tech Thread in GDD (Tires)
I've always had good luck with Potenzas, and I've had several sets of various models of them.
I've also had a couple sets of Khumo Ecstas and wasn't impressed. The ones I had started out OK but seemed to harden after many heat cycles.
YMMV though.
I think I'm going to fork out the cash for Pilot Sports next time.

I would go with the Kumhos personally. They are cheaper, have a better warranty, and they are only slightly worse overall? That would be my reasoning here. I don't exactly need the best tires out for my daily driving habits.

The Potenzas are tempting because I drive pretty hard, and occasionally I'll just pull up and go visit my folks who like 360 miles away. That extra edge would be nice on one of those journeys...but the warranty/RH protection plan is telling my common sense to just cut the **** and get the Kumhos.

I currently have ECSTA 4X on my GSR (stock) and RE960AS on moms Accord.
overall I like RE960AS better, will try RE970AS.
I wish they had RE970SA on my wheel size.

I'll have a dedicated set of summer/track tires next year.

They may very well have improved too. It's been at least five years since I've bought a set of Khumo tires.

Re: I Tech Thread in GDD (Tires)
I had a set of Kumho ASX's a couple years back. They didn't too well with winter driving AT ALL. I don't know how they compare to the 4X, but I would assume by the name that they are all seasons as well.
Once again, I could hardly ever get traction in anything more than an inch of snow. It's probably more of a commentary on my shitty driving, but I wouldn't buy them again.

Re: I Tech Thread in GDD (Tires)
if you're going dedicated summer tires, go cheap a/s.
even if you spiritedly drive, on public roads i have yet to overwhelm the crappiest A/S. I like the Falken ziex912's because they're basically the cheapest tire you can get that isn't a total shyte brand.

pretty sure i have the ziex 912's on my TSX and i actually dont mind them for a budget tire. Drove down to Myrtle beach in the tropical storm and they were great in the rain...

I don't know much about tires, but right now, I have the Kumho Ecstas. They seem like a pretty good tire and I have no complaints. Previously, I had Falken Azenis and although a great tire, they wear out too quickly (of course, I DID have these on my turbo Teg too). I am hoping that these Ecstas will last a while.

I know a lot about tires and you are going to hate those Kumhos
