16 or 17 inch rims?
I have a 99 SI and just trying to decide wether i should purchase 16 or 17 inch rims. What u guys think? Oh, also going to put on a CTR 5 lug conversion so they got to be 5 lug ( which will look badass )

I had 16's, but sold them and bought some 15's. it definitely handled better on the 16's, but the car was slower. also the ride was pretty harsh, and replacing the tires was more expensive than w/the 15's... but then again I don't buy cheap tires. I'm sure you could find knock-off tires for cheap or something.

Not true. 5 lug is probably 1000x more common than 4 lug.
16's are great for EK's, 17's can look okay depending on the wheel.

Re: (menace671)
definitely 16's. Every time I see 17's i feel like they look like 20's on a civic. I have 15" Heliums but hate having to run 205/50 tire. I'd love a smaller sidewall.

uh? yeah it was. I had Enkei TBS-1's which are around 20 lbs, and I was running 205/40/16 Yokohama Parada Spec-2's.
I upgraded to Buddy Club P-1 Racing 2 Plus', which weigh in at about 15lbs, and now run smaller 205/50/15 Yokohama AVS ES100's.
I drove on both sets of rims with two different engines daily, and I deliver pizzas so I'm in my car a bit everyday, heh.

Falken Ziex tires are all-season tires and they're pretty crappy in moderate to warm temperatures, compared with just about any summer tire. If your old wheels had decent tires, that's why your handling is worse.

You have the same situation. The ES100 is a much much MUCH better tire than the Parada Spec 2. Your car was faster with 15" because you had a better, stickier tire, not because of the size of the tire.

well, whatever the case my car *IS* faster with the 15's than the 16's, so my point remains. take that 'bullshit' and stick it up your *** Redline96LX, and next time you address me, show some respect.

I was trying to decide 15 or 16" Buddy Club SF, so I looked at weight and guess what...it was the same!
15" are 13.8lbs for the rims, 21.2 for the 205/50/15 RT-615 tires which is 35lbs
16" are 15-16lbs and the rims and 18.3lbs for 205/40/16 RT-615 tires so the total is 33.3-34.3lbs!
yes the 205/40/16 is smaller tire overall then 205/50/15 but don't jump to the conclusion 15" is lighter. It depends, are you talking the 15" 8.5lb Spoon SW388 that cost a fortune...or are you talking average lightweight wheels. smaller sidewall tires are lighter then their larger sidewall counterparts...so there is more to take into consideration.
In my case, 16" was actually lighter, same rim, same tire.
Also there are 15lb 17" rims out there, so again, not all 17" are heavy, some 17" are actually lighter then many 15" rims, so again...its all about research. But not like a few lbs makes a difference...no one can "feel" 5lbs difference...sorry

ideally, 15,16,17,18 are all the same overall height. 195/55/15 is same as 205/40/17, both are 23.5" overall. Only reason I went with 205/40/16 when 205/45/16 would have been better...is because Falken does not make the RT-615 in any 16" other then 205/40/16. so the gap is unchanged, but I think I get what your saying, sometimes larger rim, smaller tire looks better...for example, with a large drop.
