where are you guys purchasing the LED's cheap?
If someone could post a direct link to the blue or red LED's required to do this, that would be very kind of you!

Here's a not so good pic of mine. The output is actually pure white, but I forgot to change the camera settings so it looks bluish/purpulish.

Thank you. Your's look good too.
I don't think I'll ever do it again, it's too time consuming and I'm no electrical expert either. lol

this whole thread has been very interesting but id like to know more about this....
do u have any before after pictures? id like to see this.... they make like 90% of aftermarket radios with blue faces and lights.. ive always wanted them to be in red to better match the rest of my car.... i never even thought about changing the led...
do u just open the radios up or do u have some sort of manuals?

If your willing to open up your radio and try it I have some radios here that i could open up to try, but i am afraid the LEDs i have are too big... I will be trying the climate controls, just to see what it all entails...

Re: (SMOOTHN)
Bring this back from the dead.
So I mention about me changing all the LEDs out in my friend's Scion TC from amber to red. Well I did another Scion today. Snapped some pictures in the process.
All the buttons on the climate control light up red too. but the light was not on for this picture.
Here is a size comparison to give an idea of how big of LEDs we're working with

Surface mount LEDs... Now there is a PITA. Good work!
BTW, all LEDs have internal resistance, so it is possible to wire LEDs without resistors at all if you string the correct number in series. For the ultrabright 1300mcP ones that you get on eBay, I found that the magic number is five. Used those in custom third brake lights in the past.
