Default Welding helmet recommendations?

What brand/model helmet are you using for welding?

I'm thinking about picking this up:

http://www.ramweldingsupply.com/prod...ew.mcic?s=4218

I've been using a HF $40 special auto darkening and I don't really like it.

I use a snapon ya4606. At the time I bought it, it was the best one they had. Previously I was using a HF auto darkening helmet. It worked great until I upgraded to an inverter machine. I was constantly getting flashed. The HF helmet sensors couldn't keep up.

I like it but I would've went with a speedglas. This one is heavy compared to the speedlgas hoods I've used. If it wasn't for the truck account, I would've went with a speedglas....or a jackson

im currently using a miller classic vs at home

but ive used many different masks in the pass

one time I had a Lincoln auto dark mask, it was nice, but when I moved, the movers broke it- it wasn't boxed up correctly- was kind of mad, then went to a hf autodark for about a yr and then the adjustment broke on it, so I picked up the miller I have right now

at work I have always used a miller digital American eagle mask, I love that thing

I can honestly say that my harbor freight helmet was pretty badass lasted me about 3 years. I now use a miller elite and radnor dv which are both meh. whatever. Id still get a fixed lens over autodarkning but my work is stop and go alot and tight spots

Lincoln viking 3350-2 is my next helmet. I hate my miller elite. Plus the lincoln has better clarity, better headgear and better clarity. Even has a higher rating than the speedglas.

I ended up purchasing this :
Robot Check Robot Check

Local shop gave it to me for $150 OTD. Came with a (slightly small) helmet bag, extra front and rear lens covers, a bandana (which I actually use, even though I thought I wouldn't) and lots of stickers. Works great for my welding class, I'm glad I made the investment in it. The local class only has single shade helmets. The grind mode on this is nice too.

I bought a Lincoln Electric "Red Fierce Variable-Shade Auto-Darkening Helmet."

Cool helmet, but I wake up feeling like there is sand in my eyes.

Going to return.

Can you adjust the darkness? My Viking 1840 works just fine.

Yeah.

I started out at 10, then had it maxed out at 13 or 14 and still had problems.

yeah stick to a fixed shade. #10 lens for anthing 100 amps and under and then if Im welding over 100 amps its usually thicker stuff so im at a #13 lens.

Did you adjust the sensitivity of the sensor? And/or delay time? Although IIRC delay is only after the welding is stopped.

I've been off of the torch for a year and I just picked it up again thee other day.

That's what I've been rockin'!

It just sucks being in the dark before I fire up. I will get used to it again.

I believe I had it on slow (turtle), high sensitivity.

yeah for sure but you get used to it in a day or two. at least for me. i switch from auto dark to fixed shade every day doing random stuff. I like the fixed because its so light and welding all day it does matter. I use the lightest helmet possible. Jackson halo from ebay cost me like 25 bucks, works great

I started with a HF hood but was constantly getting flashed on low amp DC stuff. Thats why I love the Miller digital elite. The X mode is awesome! I dont get flashed at all anymore.

I find my Miller digital elite turns off too fast when a welding aluminum.

Delay on my hood doesn't seem to change anything post weld.
