Default Welding a cracked tranny case ?s

Well I managed to crack my tranny case last week.I purchased another one from a member on another forum and it to was cracked! so anyway I'm thinking about having the hairline cracked welded but had a about how long it will last or is it even worth it? I really don't have extra money to buy another transmission.

Thanks.

As long as its cleaned really good and pre heated before welding and the welder knows what hes doing, it should last for a long time.

I snapped the whole rear mount off mine on my ZC. I dismantelled the entire Tranny, Degreased the **** out of it, took it to my neighbor (the BEST TIG Welder I have ever seen) and he welded it back together. Nothing like a 3" chunk of aluminum coming off with 3 bolt holes in it.

2 years, Hard Launches on a 6puck Unsprung Clutch, no problems.

Is the tranny the same material as the block?

This is what I would like to know. Want to determine the Expansion Rate of the outer block.
