water to air aluminum ice reservoir, what do to for lid/cap?
im going to water to air this year, planning on just filling the reservoir with ice and water at the track.
i need a cap/lid that i can take off quickly, hopefully without tools, that is large enough to fit my hand through (in case of any problems) and that will be fairly easy to dump ice through.
it doesnt need to seal 100%, but close would be nice. i expect the box to sweat a considerable amount, so its going to get wet anyways.
the best idea ive had so far is a 4inch v-band, with one of the v-band flanges capped off. but 4inch aluminum v-bands are not cheap, unfortunately.
im trying to keep the budget as low as possible. any suggestions, pics, ideas, or general warm wishes welcome.
here is an awesome mspaint pic i threw together of the proposed reservoir.

RCI makes caps for fuel cells they sell separate.
Also i would recommend that return coolant gets dumped back into the top of the tank.. rather than the side where there will be water.
As far as the drain goes, on mine i just a have a quick connect on the top of the tank for the return line, I unhook it, stick it in a pail and hit the pump switch, and letter fly..

i was looking for a cap that could be welded on but i think ill just go with a fuel cell lid/cap. seems to just be so much easier. plus, its not like water is going to corrode through the gasket any time quickly.

i found myself asking that same question last week but then i found my answer at the local outdoorsman store (cabellas) in the form of a boat deck lid (i think thats what it was called) oh well, anyways i made a 6.5" hole in the top and then applied some clear silicone and bolted it down (it has 6 hoes in the mounting flange with recesses) and let it sit over night and now its bueno. heres what it looks like............
they come in 4" 6" and 10".................... oh and it only cost $13.00

its going on a outlaw 10.5 mustang, its the ice water resevoir, the intercooler and the tranny cooler all in one pacakage, its brillant!! with this design its got ice water sitting all around the end tanks of the intercooler and going throught the core. the 2 coolers also have they're own compartents completley sealed from each other so the tranny cooler doesnt accelerate the melting of the ice before the run. not to thread jack but heres another view with more detail...........
