Default turbo mani jig

hey guys, i got a local guy who wants me to make him a turbo manifold for a 4g63
i have never made a manifold before and i told him this but he said he wants me to try it so i said i would. i see a few people here and there talking about turbo manifold jigs, i cant for the life of me figure out what one of these would look like or how it would work so if anyone is willing to post up pics of thiers that would be greatly appreciated. also what kind of manifold do you think would work best for this motor?

you don't need a fixture to make a single manifold, you could tack your pieces as you go or use hose clamps then scribe 2 lines across your connecting pipes so you can remove and put back on when welding.

yeah, making a one-off manifold is alot of fun IMO, its just tack and go, trial and error. expect to spend 4-6 hours with your collector if you havent made one before.

Made my first mani without a jig....never again. A jig allows so much flexibility in removing runners for various reasons.

Do yourself and that guy a favor....don't make your first manifold experience your first sale.

There's no secret about it, it just a simple fixture that precisely locates your turbo flange and head flange, and incorporates any obstacles that exist so you know to build around them.

It's just a unit that you build the manifold inside of to get precise reproduction, and keeps the manifolds flanges from moving in relation to each other. Since it's locked down, you can also remove runners in order to gain room to weld, then put them back later without fear of anything moving.

This one's pretty funny...NOT mine...haha

Awesome header jig. It reminds me of Joe Dirt, and I don't know why...?

My jig consists of two flanges and a lot of 3/16" 1.5X1.5" angle.

that jig may not look pretty, but it is probably better than what most people on here are using, as most people (myself included) aren't adding the pipe clamping to locate the pipes. i've seen some pretty expensive jigs for full exhaust systems that are on a rotisserie with full pneumatic clamping at an oem exhaust supplier. pretty expensive too, they range anywhere from $100k to $800k. too bad the exhausts are all just mig welded! atleast they were stainless though.

haha good play on words

My downpipes I use a clamping jig like that...

Uber cheap, and I use about 4 of them for each downpipe jig. Very cool.

Good lord...how do you weld a mani in that thing...you got stuff everywhere. Jigs where I include "obstacles", I make removable, so once it's mocked up I can get everything out of the way for welding.
