Sway Bars for SAE Temple Car, Steel Fab Questions, ME majors especially

I am looking for info on 4150, 5150 steel. It has the stiffness and spring that i need to fab a pair of sway bars. I am mostly looking for a way to get some (in rod form) and also how to work with it. Unfortunatly from what i hear this is kind of expensive, a bit hard to work with, and i dunno if we have it in our SAE budget to buy it.
but once again, any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't see why 4150 or 5150 would have a different Young's Modulus than any other medium carbon alloy steel. They all have modulus numbers between 190-210 GPa. It seems, that your equation doesn't address material properties and only bar geometry.

5150 Normalized at 870 C, .5 round =
UTS - 131 ksi
YTS - 81.9 ksi
Modulus of Elasticity - 29700 ksi (205 GPa)
Bulk Modulus - 20300 ksi (140 GPa)
Shear Modulus - 11600 ksi (80 GPa)
