Pat yourself on the back because that cage is AMAZING! Very nice work and welds(the MIG too!)...I say you leave it the raw color
How many hours do you have in it and what did you use for notching?

beautiful cagework. You must have an excellent friend to provide you with such nice welds. I was just wondering why you wouldn't do a-pillar bars if you went that far? Is your driver cross bar as low as the one on the paaenger side? I think if it was a street car and you were just going for "the look" the a pillar bars would've definitely gave a much more racier look.

I do have excellent friends, thank you. But I did not do a-pillar bars because I had run out of material. JK. I’m not really sure why I did not do a halo and so on. It would have added A LOT more work for sure. The plan was for a 6-point which we had succeeded at. An 8 point would be wise at this point but I am happy with what I got. The Driver side door bar is identical to the passenger side. And I agree with you that the a-pillar bars would add to the "look", but unfortunately that is not what I was trying to achieve. I am not the greast driver either so I will have some time before I get to the 10.49 or quicker mark and the 8-point is required. Maybe you can teach me a thing or 2.

Teaching you to drive will be easy in your car. First we'll watch some videos of others making passes to get you all fired up, then take turn pushing your car up and down east winslow speedway. lol

very nice!!! I've been wanting to cage my sol for so long now. I just have to take the back window out, or make it not functional, i was to be able to have it down. I was thinking about using some sort of latches to hold it in for when i'm not driving it...

from never making a cage before to that?
not too shaby!!!! how many hours did you invest?
that makes me proud even though i have no relation to you of any sort i still feel if all americans invested more time into theirselves and learned skills that this country would be a billion times better.

I like how you attached the main hoop to the unibody. I think this would still be legal with a 1 pc main hoop cage, but also give more rigidy to the chassis.
I'm definetly going to look into doing that with my cage.

I agree, the cage will help if it is attached to the body of the car in more places, but The only criticism I have is to go with a 1 piece main hoop. Other than that I love the design and creativity. I also attached the main hoop into the body of my integra...

This is a stupid question. I have NEVER welded before. Do i have to reforce the area on which i will weld the tubes (Where the tube joins to the chassis)?
For example: 2nd and 5th picture.
I ask this, because i want to learn to weld to make my own cage, so i would like to know this. Thank you.

Re: (Herzeleid)
If you've never welded before, I definitely wouldn't start with a cage. Its your life its supposed to protect, and any failure in cage strength due to improper installation could cause serious injury.
If you want to know about plates, read the rule book for whichever class you anticipate on competing and it clearly defines how it should be done.
