Default spark plug cover

I noticed that no one makes a spark plug cover for the DOHC ZC motor. Reason being that there is not a spot to mount one. My question is if it is okay to drill and tap a hole, mount a stud, and have a custom spark plug cover made for the motor? I would imagine that it would be a bad idea to drill all the way through the valve cover, but I don't know this for sure? I just need some help getting pointed in the right direction. Thanks.

You wouldnt have any problems drilling all the way through the valve cover. I have NO IDEA what motor your talking about because I am not into the import scene very much, but it defenitely wont hurt anything. Just make sure your bolt is short enough not to interfere with anything internally, and you may have to put some silicone on the threads of the bolt to seal it up well, which will act as loc-tite at the same time. Go for it!

I was thinking more along the lines of something similar to all-thread rod and making posts similar to that of a b16. I believe that a router type method to create a round "pad" would have to be used first, then drill the hole in the center of the round area that has been made, tap the hole (making sure that I have the appropriate tap size for the pilot hole), and then have nuts that hold the spark plug cover in place. If anyone who has a vtec b-series motor would mind taking pics of their valve cover (top and underside), without the spark plug cover and bolts, I believe that this would help alot. The pics would need to be fairly close up and focused. So, if anyone can help, let me know. Thanks.

just a suggestion,

all though theres no real load with your part, i would recommend using a press-in type stud with a shoulder. you dont have much material thinkness to work with in the cover and joining dissimilar materials is never a good idea when it comes to long term use.

they make them with low profile shoulders, i think around .040 or so for something that small, that shouldnt interfere with the interior. just make sure you drill the right size pilot hole. the splines in meant to cut into the material in order to hold correctly.

Yeah, your talking a stud, not a bolt like I suggested. I agree with using the stud, I just didn't understand what motor it was going on...as I said. A stud would work better as suggested, and I would also use a press in type stud. Good Luck!
