Shielding Gas Always On
I have a model year 2000 miller syncrowave 250. The problem that I have is when you turn the machine on, the argon starts coming out of the torch. I am pretty sure the gas control solnoid is fine. I was wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem before I take it to the repair shop.

i have a miller dialarc hf, my gas solenoid sticks and if i just hit the outter boss where the gas is going from the argon tank to the front of the machine, it will turn off. try that and if it does turn off after tapping it, it is your solenoid sticking open more than likely. it just takes a slap of the hand to turn it off on my machine.

Re: Shielding Gas Always On
I did some more research & it looks like a few people had problems with the spring inside the solenoid. I guess I will try to take the solenoid apart & stretch the spring a tiny bit. I think I am also going to get a new gas regulator. I won't get to try it till later this week, but I will let you guys know if it fixes it.

Eh ya never know, i used to work in a welding place and me and my buddy worked in booths right next to each other and ALWAYS would screw with each others welders trying to make them do the craziest things to **** each other off. He got me at first by turning my pre-flow upto 15 seconds, it would just sit there and blow gas and never actually start the weld! Finally after a few consistent nights of messing with each other i won by changing his tungsten to a sharpened piece of 3/32 stainless filler. It melded into the cup instantly. Anyways basically if you knock a switch or something and not notice your welders will do some goofy stuff.

Re: Shielding Gas Always On
It's not your regulator I wouldnt waste the money on a new one. The gas should not be passing through the solenoid without the pedal depressed. It could be a wire jacked up in your remote telling the machine that it's depressed when it's not. Try disconnecting it and going off the panel instead of the remote.
