Re: (super_mut)
Car is slowly going back together
here is the drivers side door bar, front vertical, seat, and 5 point harness installed
I am working at getting the passanger side door bar, vertical, dash bar, harness, and seat installed between the rest of today and tomarrow after doing customers work
Stay tuned for more pics wednesday I should have the dash back in all wiring done and be starting on the new carpet cover for the rear
When all is 100% the cage will be painted with black wrinkle paint to match the factory interior
Window nets come in next weekend (one for each side)
I am going to have both sides setup 100% so the passanger can have the full experience of a real race car too (net, 5 point, etc)

Re: (.dave)
I am going to try to
it will depend on if I get my axles/drive shaft in time and turbo in time
I hope to at least be there to put the car in the show, if I get super lucky will be running quick 16 on my street tires (should still be a good 10 sec car though) just not enough time to have it fully ***** out running on slicks and all that jazz yet

u should calculate the amount of force on those end tanks sometime....i dont think the .065 will last very long. i know on tyler_h's end tank (also .065), i calculated something in the realm of 1800lbs of force on just the front side of 1 end tank! and yes, u can see his end tanks balooning...
lol, during each one of his runs im waiting for him to blow up his intercooler, haha

Had you read above I am going to paint the cage when it is 100% done (window nets, parachute, d bars in, etc)
going to use black wrinkle paint so it matches the factory interior

Did you not notice the bracing I came up for the endtanks?
Ballooning isnt a problem, it is when the balloon pops

Re: (tony1)
Well you gave me the idea to weld some studs in there, I took it the extra mile and made them hollow tubes and did bolts with big 1.75" washers to put out even more surface area bracing
Here is a pic of the shifter coming in for it, will be in tomarrow evening
The turbo of choice is backorderd for 2 months (gtk850 and gtk1000) so I am resorting to the GT4294R

Maybe you already answered this, but what "cage design software" did you use?

your shoulder must sit higher then the shoulder part of the seat then, is there a reason you didnt make the door bar without that bend in it?

Re: (tony1)
no it fits me just fine
the rule is the bar must pass between shoulder and elbow when in driving position
I drive with seat all the way back as far as it can go, arms have very little bend in them the bar perfectly follows my arm in the bend I will take a pic tomarrow so you can see
I had to put the bend in the bar so that it would clear the seat duh lol
The angle of the pics make things look bad
The bar is only about .75" over the seat it is not very high

Re: (JG-Fabrications)
seems like it would have been easier to go under the shoulder part of the seat, or maybe move the seat over towards the center of the car to make more room between the seat and the door.

Had I done this there would be no way of it ever passing between my shoulder and elbow in my driving position....
Under the shoulder part of the seat is around my stomach area, nowhere close to my arm

Re: (JG-Fabrications)
the sidebar is to be aprox half way from elbow to shoulder with arm at ones side not with your arm straight out that is the only way its been checked that I am aware of since the 70's
even if you look at a prostock car where the driver has his arm straight out the sidebar is pretty much completely below his arm with his hand on the wheel
It won't pass at etwon and i doubt it will go thru cert might want to take some pics with you in the car and send them to your nhra division tech guy for a look and opinion
before you finish
