Mini Monster Moto - YSR250
Just thought you guys would like a sneak peak @ one of my new projects.
1989 ysr-50 that was bought pretty messed up. Picked up a downed 1995 ninja 250 with 5,000 miles on it for $200. Out with the little single and in with the monster 250cc twin with 14,500 redline
I'm about a quarter of the way done. Still have a few engine mounts left and I'm going to stretch the swingarm about 5 inches for a little stability.
What do you guys think?
According to some bike calculators it should run a 12 second quarter. The 250 engine only added about 45 lbs and it may be a little hairy riding it since its only about two feet tall, haha.

Nice good luck, ever think of putting in a 250 two stoke motor out of a motocross bike? It might fit a bit better. My dad has 2 YSR 80's and 1 YSR 50.

I think it'll need a lot of suspension work--the stock forks/shocks on those YSR are pitiful.
But it should also be fun as hell, haha. doing 100 mph on a minibike would scare the crap out of me.
I dunno if you're looking at it as a drag bike only, you'll def need to stretch the swingarm and strap down the front.

YSR50's are street legal if they were registered a while ago but it's nearly impossible to get one plated nowadays.
Keep it up on that project, would love to see how it all comes together. Keep in mind that the EX250 motor you have will rev out to 14-14.5k rpm, but it makes peak power just after 12k rpm, so after that you are just spinning out to nowhere. Cool deal

Re: Mini Monster Moto - YSR250
Thanks for the replies guy
I decided on the ex250 engine becuase i couldn't pass up the price and I have a bone stock ninja 250 that I ride and its a blast, well up to about 90 mph anyways
It actually fits better then I had originally planned and there should be plenty of room for everything. I have already contacted the local DMV and I was told by the inspector that I shouldn't have a problem getting a "new construction" title with the frame being so modified. It will be street legal and I plan to ride this thing as much as possible.
I also have plans for the engine after everything is up and running. After being the head designer for Full Race for 3 years I now have a love/need to turbo pretty much everything I can. The only problem with the 250 engine is that they tend to have oil delivery problems when you bump up the power. I was thinking about doing a little home porting and adding an oil accumulator. I don't know what turbo I will end up with, just got to see what comes to me on the cheap. Probably a small Saab LPT...
Sweet swap man! How was that thing to ride after? Even with the tired original 50cc mine was a blast.

I've got a similar project with a mobility scooter* and a 200cc 2stroke twin.
*Not sure what you call them in the US. 1 of these
