Default JD2 Model 3 on Backorder. What to buy instead?

I've been trying to purchase a JD2 Model 3 bender with a die set but they are on backorder. What should I buy instead? I need to purchase this bender and have it delieved by christmas so that I can build my cage on my week off from work between christmas and new years. Any help would be appreciated.

I was looking at the Pro-tools 105 as an alternative:
http://www.pro-tools.com/105.htm

Or nutting up and buying the JD2 model 4:
http://www.vansantent.com/model_4_bender.htm

Best Regards,
Justin Olson

Get the Model 4, it's a much better bender than the model 3. I have one and i love it, and i've used both.

Should I get the air to hydraulic or electric to hydraulic?

Justin

Mine is air/hydraulic. I didn't have the extra money to spend on the electric one at the time. I was told the main difference is bending speed, but this one bends plenty fast for me, it's not like you bend this stuff really fast anyways.

Yeah I heard that JD2 is moving from FL to I think Tennesee?? JD2 and trick tools carry awesome stuff as well as Mittler bros. and tanner bros lol i think they are all tied together. Well if your building a cage over break and not running a shop I wouldent suggest the model 4 (I would have probobly bought it in your shoues cause thats the way we are ocd Dont go overkill on a bender that wont see use for the amount you paid- conservative today wealthy tommorow? hahah not a chance. Besides, when will you need to bend 4" by 3/4" If pro tools has them in stock spring that one. Same design

I have the pro-tools 105hd, basically the exact same as the Model 3.
Be sure and check some of the rock crawling websites. Those guys are all DIY'ers and they are always having group buys or just special offers. I got my setup for a good bit less than I could from pro-tools or their vendors normal prices.

The 200 is nice since it doesn't need to be anchored to the ground to operate it in manual mode. But it looks like it will have to stay manual.

The 105 can be converted to hydraulic later on and be mounted to a engine stand so you can roll it around.

If you think you will never want power hydraulic then the 200 looks pretty nice.

But iof you think you might want to upgrade to power the 105 would be the easy way to go since they offer a kit for it. But in manual mode the 105 will give you a workout. The bar they sell is 40" long and it will take every bit of it. I'm 205# and I have to use more than my weight to get the job done.
That is another thing to think about, if you are like 105# you might want the model 200. In the demo videos their is a reason the little old man is not using it.

I ended up buying a 105HD with 1-5/8" (6" CLR). This should allow me to build the cage over christmas break.

i have a jd2 model 3 bender that is brand new that i would like to sell. its never been used and comes with 1.5" and 1.75" dies. and i would need to sell it to you for exactly what i paid (price on their site). its never been used like i said, and ive kept it protected and oiled in my garage for the past few months ive owned it. it is the complete bender and stand. set up for manual bending. im selling because i dont have time right now to use it, or money to buy tubing to bend, lol.

I have a Pro-tools 105 REPLICA bender that i made as a tool and die final project in school. We are using the P-T's die set though, and the bender seems to be working VERY well! I would definitly recomend it to anyone who is thinking of buying an affordable bender. The option of going hydraulic down the road is always a nice feature as well!
