Default I've set myself on fire welding crew sign in

Another pair of jeans died today! They almost took me with them,
Spark from knocking off a mig extension (pull trigger and basically hit it) went bad and the wire landed between my leathers and my jeans..

Long story short- Pants started burning! Just took them off and it was ok.. Quite scary..

Whats your story ?

Not me but when I was in school for welding, a friend was gas welding and the mixture popped ( no biggy right ) well 10 seconds later his coat ( that he was wearing ) is going up in flames, he tosses it off and stomps it out.

funniest one i had was, i was tacking a downpipe flange and part of the bead dripped in my front shirt pocket, well my shirt pocket had no bottom afterwards...

i've had the cuffs of my pants both on fire at once and someone actually had to come over and tap me on the shoulder to tell me that i was on fire.
i don't usually stop if i'm in the middle of a bead no matter what happens around me, had lots of jeans go up, lots of shirts, a few beanies, you name it. thats pretty minor though.
it's good when you're doing overhead and a piece of slag runs down your shirt into your underwear..... that sucks.
heh

hahahaha this thread is gonna rock. hmmmm...... i've had a flux core BB fall into my sock/shoe and burn a big *** hole inbetween my achilles and ankle. needless to say my sock was smokin heheh. once i got bumped while tigging, dropped my filler, picked it back up and got bumped again. i quickly found out that i had grabbed the wrong end as i stabbed myself with the red hot end right through my shirt and into my titty. no real huge flames but my shirt was mos def on fire. after putting the fire out and spewing a string of cuss words i kicked the crap out of my little brother (he bumped me cuz he thought it was funny) friggin highschoolers.

many burns, electric shocks in the arm, fires, splatter, holes in work clothes from BBs, shrinking TIG gloves by grabbing a hot part, setting a container of laquer thinner aflame......it happens if you have been welding for a long time.....and also if you aren't paying attention like you should

im sure you all did this, well maybe not

first time welding, no gloves, and mistakenly picked up pipe i was welding..and stood there for about 5 secs wondering why my fingers were getting hot..(i guess the pain signal in my hand being sent to my brain was stuck in traffic)

how gay is that.

That's why I wear a cap or bandana under my helmet from now on. I think that little spot on the top of my head is just starting to grow back some hair now.

ok here's a good one:

making some charge piping for a friend, i was using brake parts cleaner to get that sticky label crap off the pipe [you know where this is going], so after i get it nice and clean i go in for a tack, well the whole thing catches on fire and charrs the **** out of my gloves.

morel? wait until the flammables dry completely before you weld. and don't be an idiot

I havent welded a whole lot, but i was sitting on a chair welding at a table (mig) and i leaned forward to get a better angle when i got alot of popping. I went to sit back down and was greated by a flaming ball of weld which took about an inch diameter hole out of my pants and left me with a serious *** burn.

The first time I welded I got a nasty sunburn because I was wearing brazing goggles. Another time a hot drip burned through my shoes and into the skin between my big and second toe.

A couple of weeks ago, I was playing with the tiggy torch. For some odd reason, which I thought was contamination at the time, sparks started flying everywhere. One nice little glob flew in RIGHT were there was already a small hole in my pants, and, heh, ouch. Frelling ran out of argon.

I have lit many a pair of jeans and shirts on fire while welding in the garage. The worst is getting a little ball of slag stuck in you shoe, or in your hair though.

i didn't get burn, but my car almost exploded. i was filling the spoiler holes on my trunk lid with a mig, and one spec fall inside the trunk; i forgot i had a some used oil in the 5-quart bottle sitting inside the trunk-- right under where i was welding. little i realize that my trunk starts to smoke, and i was disbelieve at first, because mig welding tend to have more smokes anyhow. so it start to ring a bell, i pop the trunk open and it was in flame...i had to spray it down with a water hose, luckily it was still controllable and it didn't get to the gas tank or spread to other parts of the car....woow...and this was in my drive way, imagine the fire jumps to the house..llol u're ***...

i was in sandles when i was in my garage. i needed to weld something so i picked up my flux core mig. the sparks kept hitting my feet so i decided to put a towel over them. well i went inside to eat right after i was done. well i ate and came right back out to see my towel with about a 2 foot flame on it. luckily it was in the middle of my garage and nothing was around

You're lucky, you shouldnt extinguish oil fires with water, it can cause an explosion because the water pressure will throw burning oil all over the place.

You should have let it scar together. Then you would have had four toes without missing any toes!

I had the good fortune of opening my mouth when tacking an exhuast on a lift. A weld BB fell right the **** down my throat and decided to hang out and quench itself in there. I had a sore throat for about 3 days till it healed so it wasnt all that bad. Scared the hell outta me when it happend though

been lit up once when a oxy flame popped, and once when a peice of slag jumped off my arc, both times i was concentrating so hard i didn't notice the fire till i started getting warm.
now i have two pairs of jeans with a hole burned in exactly the same place, and i've learned to stop what i'm doing if i start to feel a little warm
