Help on flanges for custom 3" exhaust system
I ordered an 3.0" Exhaust tubing kit for the 1992-96 Prelude from VRS Exhaust, which is basically the same thing as a KTeller piping kit as far as I know. The kit comes with all the proper mandrel bends and some universal hangers and the flange hardware included in these pictures:
My question is regarding the bottom two. What are these things and how would I use them? I figured I would be getting more of the typical 2-bolt hole flanges, like the top two in the pictures.
Obviously I tried calling VRS Exhaust BEFORE posting this thread. But no one there today could help me, which was quite lame.

those things are exhaust clamps. Do the exhaust pipes slip fit over one another? You can use those to tighten the slip fit connection. It could be for something else, would have to see the piping. They are used for putting mufflers on piping too if you don't want to weld it on. When i do my exhaust I going to use some exhaust clamps to weld hangers onto them.

I didn't try slip fitting the pipes over one another, I guess I'll try that when I get home from work. Wouldn't slip fit have to cause a slight reduction in piping diameter at the ends in order to work? If so, kinda disappointing, as I was expecting a true 3.0" OD piping system..

Does a slip joint provide as good of a seal as a typical 2-bolt flange on both sides with a gasket in the middle? I want whatever is most durable/best sealing. I could ditch the slip joints if its not as good and sell them.

They seal reasonbly well. they are a lot easier to use than flanges as you do not have to weld the flanges on the end of the tube. I would say it's up to you. If you're more familiar/happy with flanges then use them instead. But I really don't see any problems using slip joints.

Depends on the 2 bolt flange, some of universal ones have oval holes where the bolts are supposed to go which makes them a PITA to allign.
Muffler clamps are a pain in the *** later down the road when you want to dissasemble the piping for whatever reason. The clamps camps can cause distortion of the metal making it difficult to remove the 2 sections. The seal can be good on slip overs. I do believe they have a sealent you can put on the tubes before you clamp to improve seal.
