Those test results were most likely considering a Power Commander also. You'll get gains from that alone, even on an otherwise stock bike.

WHATEVER ITS called, why is it there? something with exhuast flow i would assume...but woulded the diamter changes cause backpressure?

It's there to augment the power band so to speak. no no back pressure

It looks to me like it's a expansional pressure chamber meant to increase trailing flow velocity through the collector, my question is what is the point of the force flow venturi after the chamber?

I can see the system in my head, but something about that part isn't clicking.

As i said before im not going to go into depth into this for this is somehting we had to R & D and figure out and lalalala

The reverse cone protion is used to augment the reflected wave, and attenuate it to the proper strength that is needed for that particular design

Come on, just a little more info for the curious.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by eLusive ek4 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The reverse cone protion is used to augment the reflected wave, and attenuate it to the proper strength that is needed for that particular design</TD></TR></TABLE>

So you're saying that this is a vibrations and sound solution?

no no no, it has to deal with the scavenging and timing of pulses during overlap periods

Ok, I'm getting confused on the terminology, the last post you said reflected wave and now you said pulse timing. Is this still a gas flow problem, because waves and pulses are vibrationary things.

EDIT: Cool.

I never knew an "expansion chamber" Worked with a 4 cycle engine. we always use them on 2 cycles. Nifty

i think all exhaust act the same regardless if its 4 or 2 cylcle, its just the gas presure and velocity that differ..sound is sound although not a constant becouse of particals in the gas.you will never get a perf tune for exhaust but you can get close with a computer figuring what the mass amount of particals are in the flow to impede/reflect sound reversion..most peeps and formulas only give an answer to a perfect burn (use air as the gass) but the only real way is to test on an actual engine..BUT you cant becouse its always changing...so find the bets median and test test test........Looks damn nice by the way....I need a header to go on the Volvo B234 twincam head to a HX35 Holset turbo and to fit in the SVO mustang engine bay but on a Ford 2.3 block...lol..im making one but others doing this set up are too scared and want to buy one...........Hal

the reasoning behind the convergent-divergent (or critical flow venturi) nozzle is not a secret by any means. bernoulli principle proves flow velocity and pressure concentration are inverse. the nozzle is to increase velocity so the pressure goes down and acts as a map for these pulses to find their way out of the collector instead of into another chamber's runner at the merge. flow will go wherever pressure dictates. sound/harmonic/wave/resonant tuning (all same thing) is another means of adjusting pressure pulses at the valve itself through timing of compressions and rarefractions. they can be adjusted with exhaust pipe overall length primarily. intake tuning is similar. while its not the whole story, search "helmholtz resonator" for some insight.

trial and error cant be replaced. every engine variable factors in, and buying one would be cheaper than making 3 that dont work right. if you wanna build exhaust (or anything else) do so because you love it, not to save a buck. youll spend 5 to save 1.

burns stainless, you guys sure dont have much to worry about. anyone who has the ability to make a dent in your business will find this out on their own. and you were right about a lot of haters. doesnt matter if you make the best or the worst, most or the least. there will always be someone who dislikes you for it. i think its despicable.

keep making top notch ****. and charge an arm and a leg for it. you guys didnt toil to get where youre at to bend over backwards for everyone who didnt.

How does the valve overlap in aftermarket cams affect this.As a side note inconel sucks to machine I do it far more than I'd like. My condolances to your tooling budget if you machined the flange that is.

pressure flows from area of greatest concentration to area of least. during valve overlap (intake and exhaust open in same cylinder, not other runners overlapping) exhaust pressure will usually be greatest and will expand into chamber, even into intake tract, then be reinducted, which sucks.

if the pulses can be timed right, there will be a negative pressure wave returned to the exhaust valve during overlap, and the exhaust pressure will draw inert gasses out of the chamber, which is magic for torque production. its more a question of specific cam overlap duration than stock or aftermarket.

But I mean the pulse time from one cylinder to the next would change. With a different overlap the initial timing of the exhaust pulse and time until the next exhuast valve opens would be different. Wouldn't that (the duration change not the overlap) change the frequency of the pulse. and if so wouldn't they then converge either further away or closer together which seems like the megaphone would be either farther or closer to the head to maximize the scavanging effect of the resonance pulse. I'm just trying to get my head around this I'm not dissagreeing with you.

Mike thanks for the compliments and thanks for in depth explanation that to be honest i dont have time to type im too busy with other stuff here to type all that out in an understandable manner

thanks again mike you our type of customer!

essentially like i have said before this program was created to time pulses to scavenge at overlap while not trying to send to strong of a negative pressure wave back to the port.

This is why we have this http://www.burnsstainless.com/...m.htm

We dont make you fill all that information out to waste time we make you fill it out becasue it is ever so usefull to us when we are designing a header!

Nevermind I realize reading my own post the frequency wont change the merge point but I would think it would have an afect the length of the cone. Would it take a longer cone to flatten out a higher frequency wave than a lower one?

casey, thanks and youre welcome, but im not anyones type of customer. im a cheap pollock, and a broke one at that... the jerk who makes everything cuz he has no money. but i understand the boat youre in, and it pisses me off to hear the whining. busy people charge busy rates. and when we get too busy, the rate goes up some more. dont like the price? find someone with less work on their hands. trade masters are usually pretty damn busy. good luck!

ish474- if i could answer your question i would, but i dont know enough about it. "scientific design of intake and exhaust manifolds" will shed a lot of light.

Don't you have to first have govmnt. approval to purchase icconel? lol

That's a ******* nice header there, but daym, how much does that cost.

Maybe its just me, but ever since you got on this board, your soul purpose was to promote your company and that's it. Ok, yes burns makes some really nice ****. But its nothing so crazy albeit iconel and some titanium pieces, that guys on here cant make themselves. Don't act like "burns" is the only way to go, and you all must buy our collectors or your whips will be slow....

This forum is about welding and fabing your own stuff together, so you can save money, make a little money, and say, "look, i made this myself, it was fun/cool to make, it works good, and it saved me a shitload of money.

Its not about shameless promotion about your company that overprices everything it sells.

I can't even imagine what that header would cost....

To put it bluntly...i don't think i speak for myself when i say this...your a ****** toolbag...

The least you can do is become a sponsor and support this forum while helping out your company. Then you won't have to spam all the sections about "awesome new products that add + 15whp, but its a secret and im trying to create a buzz for my company and advertise for free..."
