So my dad got a $500 gift certificate to lowes with his new truck he got, and he wants to get a welder. This is the most expensive one at lowes and i was wondering if its a good quality welder. It's MIG and i know that type is a lot easier to learn how to weld with.

A 230V welder is pretty decent setup. It should be strong enough to weld upto about 3/16" thick solid, I would say its quality setup, youll also need to pick up a Co2/Argon bottle to go with it for some nice welds.

The honest truth is you cannot get a good welder from Lowes/HD.

Try sell it for cash and buy one somewhere else..

It is a lincoln, although im not that fond of lincoln welders it will weld decent.

yeah im just looking for something that will make a decent weld and is pretty good quality.

Cant go wrong with it. Not sure why you "cant buy one from Lowes or HD"...when the Lincoln you buy at Lowes or HD is the exact same Lincoln you buy in a shop. That 230V machine is a great machine and will do pretty much anything you want to do except aluminum...which it can do if you buy the aluminum conversion kit. Go for it...I bought my Lincoln at Lowes and love it, and on top of that, nobody can beat Lowes prices for some reason. GOOD LUCK!

I contacted lincoln before I bought my HD3200 from Home Depot. The lincoln rep said that it is an SP135T w/ different graphics on the faceplate....thats it. HD and lowes simply get their own little cosmetic touches on the the same welders. Go ahead and buy that one, you will not be disappointed. It should be good for at least 5/16 material.

That is a great setup for someone who is just going to use it for their own use and especially good because with the $500 gift certificate you are paying less than $100 for it. If you are looking for something that you are going to use 8 hours a day, I would look into getting something a little stronger.

there is nothing wrong with that welder and it is a great starter system. Perfect for exhaust work and other small jobs. I have the exact same welder and it lays down perfect beads for a mig. We have done turbo back exhaust systems, manifolds, roll cages, log manifolds, O2 Housings, welding tables, etc. and have yet to come across a job it cant handle.

It has put up with about 2 years of abuse and still works just as good as the day I bought it. Also comes with a 3 year warranty for parts & labor which is great!

We also have the Lincoln Squarewave TIG 175 and love it. Lays down beautiful aluminum welds.

Dont believe quotes from people who have never used this actual welder and listen to people who have..

Thanks to everyone who just posted, all the info really helps, expecially because some of it came frome people who had experiance with the welder.

Those are some of the things that i would be working on so its good to here that it works well for those types of things.

I was looking to get a lincloln SP175 PLUS. I was wondering if it's worth the extra cash to get a SP175 PLUS over the PRO MIG 175. The only difference that I noticed between the two is the the SP175 PLUS has infinite voltage and wire speed.

You even need to read the fine print for those SP 175 welders on ebay. I almost ended up buying the tap-**** controlled unit (K1875-1) until I saw that there was a difference in part #'s for the continueous **** version (K1642-3) even though they were both SP175's.

I have the pro mig 175 and it's a GREAT little machine. the wire feeder mechanism is awesome; it doesn't nest up and is very consistant. I've also welded with it maxed out for a while and it doesn't heat up or do strange things on me.
I'm sure the infinate voltage setting is nice but i dont really thing you'll need it for welding small **** up. I made charge pipes and a ram-horn with my pro mig.
Great little machine for the money imo; mine came with the welder a cart and a nice angle grinder for like $630 with tax I also bought a book gloves and some consumables with that.
