That's one of those Harbor Freight Machines. If you thought the old 200watt Pyramid amps that were the size of a cigarette pack, were a good deal....you'd like this machine.

Why not just save up some money and get something like a Maxstar 150? It won't do AC, but neither will that one above....and the Maxstar, you can sell one day when you want another machine.

Why not get something like these:

You get what you pay for when you buy welding machines....and that goes for used ones too. I used $1000 machine will typically be much better than a new $1500 machine. Likewise, a $200 machine will only be worth that...or less. In other words, if all the guys here can spend $1500 on a Syncrowave SD and they say it's worth it....what do you think you will get out of a $200 welding machine? I'll tell you...not much at all.

You may not have much money...but remember the Pyramid car amps. You were better off to just admit you don't have the money to get into the sound competitions than to spend your money on the Pyramid.

Those welds may not have even been made with that machine. And the welds aren't that great. I can promise you that if I spent 2hrs helping you, you could weld like that. It looks like he fused them without any filler metal at all. Having polished pipe, the weld color is a little easier to keep pretty also.

I'm not saying the weld sucks...just that it's not hard to weld like that, and that YOU could do that with the right amount of practice or minimal training. The person is more important than the machine, for the most part. However, I don't think you could put Earnhardt in a Pinto and see him beat me in a Mustang
...and this welding machine is a Pinto.

for steel you want a pencil point tip. for alluminum you want a rounded tip. you can use a grinder to get the pencil point, but make sure you use a clean part of your wheel. of rth rounded, just take a new/flat cut electrode and hold it perpendicular over a piece of brass for about 5 seconds.
i learned this in my welding class at the local community college, and was about get get some REALLY pretty welds without running back over to smooth.
