custom flanges
Does anyone have a good place the have some cnc 3d exhaust flanges made that aren't going to take months on end then just stop answer emails. They would be a rectangle port to correct pipe size also a circle port to a smaller circle pipe. Would like the to be 304 ss and finish product to be a minimum of 1/2 so would need to start with 3/4 stock. I have a screen shot of the bolt pattern specs. I would need 10 of each flange to start.

3d machined flange from rectangle ports to round pipe . I would rather pay to have them machined at higher quality than waste my time doing it by hand. But have problem finding a shop that will do them. Turbo-flanges.com didn't want to mess with it. I think i will need more of these down the road along with some for another engine aswell.

This first set is for 5.9 cummins. I would need some for a few tractor engines. When im near a computer in the morning I will post a few screen shot with measurements needed for bolt pattern. They are out on the Internet just need to put them together. Basically it will be a 3 cyl flange for the front three and another for the back three to prevent any warping issues. Each flange is roughly 12inch long. The 24v port will be a round port 1.66 inch head side to 1.442 round to match 1.25 sch10. Also would like a centering groove machined so the pipe sets in the flange like .100. The bore spacing is 4.722 for bolt patter width but will need to check the height. Also will check specs for the 12v rectangle port to 1.25 sch10.

12v is the rectangle port. Port dimensions 1.8 tall by 1.22 wide.
24v is round port. 1.66
Bolt pattern is 4.722 wide by 3.00 tall(not exact but very close)
Would like three cylinders as one flange. Wouldnt need the open bottom bolt holes like in the picture. If i had solidworks i could do the flanges rather quick but dont plan to buy it till later in the summer. Simple loft feature will do the port shapes.

Since you took our drawings off our site (http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog...teel-2900.html), you would think the logical progression would be to ask if we can combine the square ports into the flange you need? Which we can.

It was just an example and the specs needed changed as those on your site are incorrect. Also even a 5axis water jet isnt going to be able to do the flanges I needed made. Do you guys have any vmc's because that's what it would take to make them. I also needed to find a place that could do other parts aswell that would need done on a vmc. I just got tired of dealing with larger businesses wasting my time or not even responding.

Yes, we have machining centers, but looking at your description again I see the issue - quantity. If I were you, I would have the flanges watejet cut from 3/4" plate with a port dimension that falls in between the round/square profile that you will need on both sides. Then manually mill the square port into the top surface and the round hole into the bottom and grind a transition between the two extremes. We've done this for a number of prototypes in the past.

I'm curious why you even posted in this thread. You just basically said you wouldn't do them. Which is the same response when i emailed and asked. Your site states you will do custom flanges but that is not the case. You have the equipment to do it but don't want to. The time it takes to make the flange like you suggested would cost more than paying to have them cnc'd. If that's what I wanted I would of done them myself on a plasma table. I've had someone contact me and so far have been great to deal with. Seems many want to put out quantity not quality products.

Just some t4 headers for a couple twin turbo street trucks including my daily driver/towrig. Then a few t6 headers for some sled pulling trucks and tractors. I like this because you have more flexibility on where you can put the turbo over stock placement. I will post a few pics when I get a couple done but it will be 3-4 weeks before I start them. Hopefully I can use a few things I learned on here to make some nice looking welds.

Aaron, it all comes down to the manufacturing economics involved with each process. The only processes we have that lends itself well to short run production is waterjet and some fabrication processes. CNC milling, CNC turning .. these processes I only run production with.
When you ERP control your manufacturing processes, you start to see how taking one machining center offline to do short run parts can impact the per part cost for hundreds if not thousands of parts on the other machining centers due to combined labor savings and reducing the general efficiency of multiple operators. Since my primary issue is maintaining 400,000+ part inventory levels that we manufacture, I use the least impact process to do custom parts.
When you ERP control your manufacturing processes, you start to see how taking one machining center offline to do short run parts can impact the per part cost for hundreds if not thousands of parts on the other machining centers due to combined labor savings and reducing the general efficiency of multiple operators. The cost/time involved in making custom/1 off pieces in a production shop environment would be astonishing to most customers thats why you don't see many shop taking in that kind of work.
