i just learned about this stuff in skool. it chemically reacts with the red hot tungsten, and when it cools, flakes off into a point.

the grinders aint cheap. 5-700 on cyberweld.

I never felt the need to use that tungsten grinders. My bench grinder works just fine for me.

I've used the chemical stuff, it sucks. Tungsten grinders are the way to go if you are really good and want perfect repeatability in your welds, or for automated tig machines.

ive worked at a good bite of fab shops building stuff for chemical plants, and i aint ever seen a tungsten sharpener we always just had a bench grinder, titewaded suckers, always sharpen your tungsten downwards towards the tip keeps from buildup on the tip, AND IF UR GOOD ENOUGH YOU SHOULD HARDLY EVER HAVE TO SHARPEN YOUR TUNGSTEN. I normaly sharpin mine about ounce a week and weld all day every day
