Mixing and matching B and D series gears

Mixing and matching B and D series gears
I've been frantically searching to try find the thread i saw a good +4 years ago and it was of someone who made a budget hybrid B series gearbox that had a gear out of a D series, I think it was third or fourth and it was either flipped over or required some machining. I'm just trying to build a cheap close ratio gearbox using a mix of oem B series and mfactory gears (plus hopefully D series to give me some more options). Anyone know of the small thread a few years back or can offer some help? This would be right up Bense's alley but its a pity we dont see much of him these days on the forums.
Cheers.

ah ok, not good.
Do you know if you can swap B series gears around like with the Mfactory D series setup where you use the 3rd gear as a close ratio 4th?

Re: Mixing and matching B and D series gears
3rd gears all need to be 3rd gears. 4th gears all need to be 4th gears. LS gears can't be mixed with a B16/GSR gear due to different synchro sizes.

D series gears dont fit on the b series main shaft and hub and sleeves of d series doesnt fix on the b shaft but h series 3rd and 4th can work on the b series main shaft

DOHC VTEC B-series transmissions have larger synchros for 3rd/4th gears. 5th gear is same size, but different ratio.
