Default 3rd and 4th gear problem

its not really a problem but a concern.

my buddy had an LSD installed into a gsr transmission by a good friend of mine (reputable)

the LSD was claimed to be an OEM with a 10 bolt. didnt really get a good look at it. but heres the only picture we have.

after the lsd was installed, it was reinstalled back into the car. has honda MTF. drove it around and there wasnt any noise what so ever. gears were butter as well (new 2nd and all new carbon syncros installed)

the car, a CRX with 388hp/263tq, was taken to the track last weekend on 24.5 and 7psi. (bbg, 1st - 10lb, 2nd - 15lb, 3rd/4th 20lb) heres what the car did. 1st gear the car took off hard as it should, 2nd went great, as soon as it hit 3rd gear it went straight to redline right away as well as 4th gear. we didnt know exactly why it did that. so we ran it 2 more times (total of 3 runs) the car did the exact same thing in 3rd and 4th redlining before crossing.

i was told there was a clutch type lsd and upon research ( JDM GSRs with optional lsd ....Clutch type---10 bolt ring), i was wondering if the clutch pack in the lsd (if its clutch type) was slipping? we thought it was the clutch, but it never did it with the b16 trans that was on it before that went 11.80. its also a new ACT 6puck unsprung. no clutch burning smell either.

if you can watch the video here. you can hear and see exactly what its doing.

if anyone has ideas or suggestions, please resond! TIA

Sounds like your clutch is screwed. The gear sounds intact as the engine does appear to have some load on it. Its not a neutralization from the sound of it (no broken gears).

The driver would probably notice pulling if you had broken a tire loose at that speed. Most LSD's do very little after the launch because to break-away torque becomes so high that an LSD is irrelevant.

Any new clutch must be bed-in to some degree. You may be exceeding the load capacity of the clutch. What pressure plate are you using? Even at your power level, the plate is more important than the disc. Tire size also has a lot to do with this as well. Need more information.

Honda never had an OEM clutch type LSD in any of those transmissions. You have two choices for OEM LSDs, 10 bolt ITR/CTR Helical LSD, or 14 bolt viscous. The 14 bolt viscous will notmally fail in one of 3 ways: 1) The splined end of one side of the LSD where the axle goes in will shear off. 2) The LSD will go bad and function as an open differential. 3) The LSD will fail and act as a spool. I'm not entirely how the helical will fail, but the issue you're having is a slipping clutch. Check your clutch freeplay, it's possible you don't have any and once the clutch heats up there's a little pressure on the release bearing causing it to slip. Unrelated but I wouldn't run Honda MTF in that trans either, Torco MTF or RTF I'd use an additive for the LSD depending on exactly what LSD it is as well.
