Vtec not kicking in
Hey I'm having a problem my vtec is not kicking in at all replaced the vtec solenoid checked the wiring and it's good I still get code 22 and code 6 I know 22 has to do with the vtec and the 6 is the temperature before I had this problem vtec was kicking in great but then I had a blown head gasket and took it to a shop after I picked it up vtec wasn't kicking in and the guy said he didn't touch anything to do with the vtec does anyone know what it can be thats wrong? Re: Vtec not kicking in
If the guy replaced your HG then he definitely touched stuff that has to do with VTEC, or he didnt do the work he says he did. VTEC is in the cylinder head, and it has to be removed to replace the HG, very basic stuff here. Could be any number of things being as the head was off. HG could be on wrong, not enough oil pressure, and so on and so on. I suggest you have this guy who worked on your car fix what he fucked up because it doesnt sound like you can do it and he obviously did something. If you take your car to someone and it was working fine when they got it, but after they do their work it doesnt work like it should, they should fix it, just my 2 pesos...

Yeah that's what I said and he just kept saying that he didn't touch nothing this and that and he said my ecu didn't work but if it didn't work the. The 2 step system I have in there wouldn't be working if it was the ecu and I don't trust that guy no more this is the second car i took to him and it seems like he knows nothing bout hondas/acuras

Re: Vtec not kicking in
Unscrew the oil pressure gauge sensor and screw in a oil pressure gauge. Bag that for now if you can't, just go through these steps to check your vtec is working properly.

Re: Vtec not kicking in
I dont know if you have to remove cams or not with yours to replace HG but I would deff. check oil pressure at Head. Once again IDK about your engine, but since it is Vtec maybe its similar to mine. There is 2-3 oil orifices in the head. If you dont have correct oil pressure Vtec wont kick in Yo!
Getting this checked is not hard/ and or, expensive.
Reminds me of when I first bought my 5G lude and I just had to buy the "Billet S2 Vtec solenoid" and I kept getting a code 22. I replaced the pressure switch with a Genuine Honda stealership sensor, reset my ECU about a million times. Low and behold I swapped solenoid back out with OEM and BAM, Vtec YO! no CEL!

Re: Vtec not kicking in
VTP and ECT plugs are identical in shape... and they can accidentally be interchanged... especially on a DOHC engine. Wiring colors for the ECT are red/wht and grn/wht (or grn/blk), the VTP plug has a blue wire and a black wire. I saw this problem on a car yesterday... swapping the plugs solved everything.
As stated above, both of these plugs would have been removed/unplugged during cylinder head removal to replace the head gasket.
