v2v clearance tool what you think?
i found a cheap *** tweezer at harbor freight long enough to reach the cylinder.
heres what it looks like
1long needle nose tweezers( or whatever they called
2 set of feeler gauges to cut out from
3 a flexible string to pull the feeler gauge
4 metal cutter and file to smooth the surface
first feeler gauge was testing and it didnt roll to place
the second (fatter) feeler gauge is what it should look like
has to be shaved off to fit the diameter of spark plug hole and has to be shaved off on the back to be able to slide out and not get stuck on the corner
and no its not my engine its a spare head that i have( its for sale btw in my for sale thread)

not really sure the practicality of this, as shouldnt these clearances be checked prior to installing a built head in the first place?

Re: v2v clearance tool what you think?
when you buy an engine that is built by someone else and most of the time is not tuned.
you want to take it to a dyno so you do it without taking the head off
and what if you upgrade cams later onwhen the block and valve train was already upgraded and engine running
if the intake manifold is off it will be even easier
but you just need to take off the exhaust manifold to see in with the flash light
this is really cheap and ghetto setup lol I spent maybe 15 minutes on this just to see if my theory would work

We understand, but even if you spend 30 minutes to an hour trying to check this with your tool, you might as well of taken the head off anyway. You would still need to verify and honestly, I wouldnt feel comfortable trusting that tool/idea. You would still need to also check V2P clearances as well if your even concerned about v2v.

Re: v2v clearance tool what you think?
well I already figured out a way to check p2v clearance which is pretty simple also
its in the main p2v thread. ( the zip tie and clay bar)
why wouldn't you trust this? im using actual feeler gauge of .35 and.40mm.
same as checking it with a head off.

whats to fail?? just like many precision tools its not for anyone to just drop down in and say yep its clear.. but like he mentioned pulling the exhuast or intake to see in will aid in acuracy.. such as swapping cams you can know your at minume in a safe clearance.

this is a 20 minute prototype.
not a final product. when I go shopping I see if I can use something else instead of those needle nose pliers.
they have toold similar to this with a slit cut at the end of the rod and a small bolt to hold the piece in. which will be much better but I have to find it.
im sharing the idea so if you have a better way of making it please share also...
pulling the exhaust and/or intake and flashing a light in it is by far easier than pulling the head off just to measure clearance.
and replacing headgasket and other stuff
