Timing Belt: Oil Pump and Belt Cover TDC Marks DON'T MATCH UP
Did a head gasket. During removal, I set the crank pulley to TDC w/ the timing belt cover.
Took off the crank pulley and the timing was advanced when compared to oil pump mark w/ crank gear. So I lined it up to oil pump mark.
Upon reassembly, lined up the crank gear perfectly to mark on oil pump, again. Cam gears were perfect. Put on the cover and sure enough, the crank pulley was retarded, or past, the timing cover mark.
Which do I go by??? Found two other similar threads but no answers. Integra GSR, all OEM parts.

More info because I know these questions will arise:
- New OEM tensioner spring and pulley
- Lined up and turned 3 teeth, then tightened tensioner
Everything was done by the book. I would assume the oil pump / crank gear would be the one to go by if you had to choose between the two.
Advice???

This is roughly what the oil pump lines looks like when I have things aligned w/ the timing belt cover (this is not from my actual motor though). To me, it is clearly not aligned. But with it aligned perfectly with this mark, it is off by about the same amount on the retarded side on the timing cover mark.

that doesnt look off to me. after you tighten it up rotate the engine all the way around a few times to see if anything is hitting. then recheck your timing..also are you putting the belt on in the correct sequence and do you have the correct belt.

That works right to you? It looks like it's slightly on the retarded side to me.
I did the belt correctly, I've done them before. Right order, right way to tension, and turned five or six times after. OEM parts as I already stated above.

youve got to take into account that youre looking at it at an angle. and IF you did the headgasket job correctly you wold have milled the head a tiny bit for assurance. and just because the parts are oem does not mean a thing. the moron behind the counter can grab the wrong **** and give it to you. and then if you dont check it either. i mean its not hard to get wrong parts. but if it were an ls belt you would know due to there being a good amount of deflection.

it it doesnt hit when you rotate it fire it up and see. worse come to worse your off a tooth and have to readjust it...seeing as how youre still talking about this over 24 hours. you couldve done it 8 times by now

It was twelve hours. I stopped last night and picked it up again this morning.
I redid the belt three or four times, same results. I'll post pics to prove it later. The car wont start. Turns but doesn't fire. Probably not bc of the timing issue. I will troubleshoot tomorrow.
