Default Steering wheel turns by itself???

I have a 92 acura legend and whenever i park on uneven ground the steering wheel turns all by itself... then when i go to pull out i hear a loud pop. Im assuming its the cv joints? But could they really make the wheel turn like that??

probably not cv joints

more likely tie rod ends and/or bad alignment

Its either the rack and pinion, or the pump is putting out too much pressure. If its not that, then its alignment. If the caster split is way off, then the steering wheel will turn itself one way depending on the caster angle. The '92 legends have a caster adjustment on the radius rods. I'd say have the alignment checked, and if the cross caster is good (below .5 degrees), I'd say think about replacing the rack, and pinion, and possibly the pump. You might have to have a mechanic check it first to narrow it down to one component.

If the vehicle pulls to one side while you are driving, there is a simple test to try. Put the vehicle in neutral, and turn off the engine (just don't turn the key all the way off, or the wheel will lock, and you could get into an accident), and if it stops pulling, the rack, or the pump is bad. If it keeps pulling, its alignment, or maybe the tires (belt separation, buldges, a different tire on one side compared to the other, etc.)

Hope this helps
