Default OBD1 auto ECU to manual conversion. PICS

Basically I'm wondering if I did this right and if so I guess it can be used to help others out. This is a p06 ecu out of a civic DX hatch. It was for an automatic and i decided to convert it to manual and i'm going to chip it later on. Somebody check my work.

1. Take the ECU apart and find where the resistors are located that you have to remove.

2. Cut the resistors as shown in the pic with small wire cutters.

3. Solder a jumper wire across RP18. That should be everything.

While I don't like the wire method of jumpering RP18 it should work fine.

Yes, that works fine. I'd rather use a ~ 1cm piece of bare single strand wire and jumper the topside of the ECU, instead of that clumsy coated wire, but that's more cosmetics than functionality.

You can also convert JDM P08/P30 to manual in a similar fashion... the jumpers are on the bottom of the ECU and surface mount, better have steady hands and the ability to see/work with small parts.

http://www.pgmfi.org is your friend in this, check the wiki.

Well I went ahead and de soldered that ugly jumper wire and instead cut the leg off of an old resistor and jumpered it that way. I bent the wire in the shape of an arch and just dropped it in... I will post pics of that too.

thanks guys.

PS. - J. Davis.... where do you get your single strand 1cm wire from

This would be the same method for converting a p28, correct?

I meant 1 cm long... I use resistor legs, same as you did. Sorry for the confusion.

RP17 and RP18 are SMT chips on the bottom side of the ECU board.

back from the archives.. on my auto P28 i have both RP17 and RP18. so would i just leave RP18 alone, and cut out RP17?

also.. does this have anything to do with IC15, and IC16 that are missing in 5 speeds? just extra parts???

i removed my RP17. RP18 is already there.. do i have to remove that capasitor, and hard wire it (jumper).. or is it ok, since it already connects?

The RP18 that is already there is a resistor of some stupid value, and avails you not. You need to replace it with a jumper wire with no resistance across it.

another way to do it is to add a 5sp rom , instant auto to manual conversion.

Yes sir

There is no such thing as a 5 spd OBD1 ROM. Civic/Pigtegra code is generic, and modular - the non-VTEC ECUs have VTEC code snippets with VTEC settings above revlimit, and blank VTEC mappings. They also have both manual and automagic code snippets - it is all determined by RP17 and RP18 jumper settings.

If you were talking about OBD0, you would be correct. Sadly, you are not.

this method wont give you a check engine light, will it? i thought that was the idea behind this conversion.

auto to 5 speed... removing resistors between RP18 and 17, and then jumping RP18 with solid wire.

-----------------------------------------------------------

installed 2 disk resistors on C51 and C52.
and a resistor on R54.
74 HC373 to the left of the 28 pin external rom.
and then the 28pin socket with low profile zif.
and then finally jumping J1.

am i good to go?
