Need some help asap. Pulled my clutch and look what I found...
well I took my clutch and flywheel off to do my rear main seal and I see this ****...
ALSO look at my flywheel and clutch and tell me if this is normal. I dont think it is... Its a 6 puck and 8lb aluminum flywheel from lsdmotorsports...
wtf? dO you think that broken housing could be the cause of my MASSIVE rear main seal oil leak? Should I replace this or what?
Also, I lost one of my pressure plate bolts somehow. Would it be ok for me to replace all 9 bolts with some bolts from ace hardware since they are 'weight matched'?
TIA!

ok, so I found out that I need to have the same oem bolt for the pressure plate.
Can anyone explain the flywheel and clutch wear?

did you torque the pressure plate down right and do the proper break in?

I pulled the rear main seal. Took a picture of that chunk of lip thats missing to get opinions on that. I put it all back together now and I'll see how it goes on start up day next week.
When my friend and I torqued the pp down teh first time (when it was new) we used an impact gun. This time I torqued them down to 19ft lbs thinking that maybe they were over tq'd causing the clutch to rub the outer rim excessively.
I also had 3 longer PP bolts so I replaced those with shorter ones....I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have no more rear main seal problems. Boughta catch can to relieve pressure from teh block. Also ordering my new rings, bearings, and HG tonight. Should have it running by wednesday next week....I hope

Anyone know if My rear main seal is going to leak because of this or if it is just a thing to keep the seal from going back too far? I already put it back together and will have it running again by friday when my rings and bearings come in. Just would liek to know what to expect....

umm.. NEVER TORQUE ANYTHING WITH A IMPACT GUN, YOU WILL ******* STRIP THE BOLTS OR OVERTIGHTEN THE FASTENER AND IT WONT COME OFF. yes there are a few reasons your clutch looks like that. a) the oil leak can cause the clutch to slip and overheat and leave score marks. b) your torqued it down too much or not in the proper order and it caused your clutch to not be centered/balanced.

What Kind of clutch is that, Your rear main seal is toast and Was definelty caused by the clutch.
When people go overkill on their clutches and get ones with pressure plate forces that are beyond the force needed for the power they are making it eats rear main seals due to the constant pressure they put on the crank moving side to side, you might even have a thrust bearing gone, I reccomend checking your crankshaft endlpay before putting it together.
Hopefully a fresh seal will help but that clutch is gone, whatever the material it is made of cannot tolerate too much heat before it ruins itself and glazes.

hmm...we'll see if the clutch is scred up or not...It was holding fine. NEver slipped. It's a clutch specialties rated at 280 ft/lbs. When I was reinstalling the flywheel and clutch, I noticed that 3 of the bolts that were in my fly were longer than the rest....I changed themout for shorter ones that were the samelength as the rest.

This is not at all true. you can easily control torque with in impact gun. Now obviously its not as accurate or repeatable as the proper torque wrench but people do it all the time, including myself. Just because an impact gun was used does not mean the parts are ruined or the bolts are stripped.

Re: (Runnerdown)
nothing is stripped. It is all back together with proper tq now. It will be running friday. I'll see how it does. If its not as grabby as it was before(and it slips), I'll take it back apart. but, we'll see. I think it wil be fine.
BTW: It's an 8lb aluminum flywheel and clutch specialties 6 puck
