Actually it's the other way around. Castrol is not a true synthetic but a highly modified dyno oil. Mobil is mum about their lastest formulation of Mobil 1 which some believe may not be fully synthetic anymore. Check these links out:

so then why do they advertise it as Fully synthetic?

so the mobil1 is a real and true 100% synthetic and Castrol Is not?

I also heard that Castrol Syntec was indeed not full, however, it does not matter; either oil will provide enough protection for what you are doing, don't worry.

Seems the word 'synthetic' is getting bastardized so you don't know what it means anymore. Something meaningfull would be that the oil is made from a type III feedstock or a type IV feedstock. Trouble is, you can't always find that information...

Redline and Amsoil are the only two furmulators that offer street oils that are truely full synthetic that I am awhere of.
Companies like Royal Purple have true synthetic oils but it is their race-only oils, which should not be used on a street driven engine.

Bolth Mobil 1 and Castrol Syn. are based on hydrocracked base stocks, which are in fact mineral oils.

Really? I was pretty sure Mobil 1 used PAO feedstock, which is type IV, right? Or is this the 'new formulation' that someone mentioned? That's what I meant about having a hard time understanding what it's really made from...

I personally think it's all a bunch of useless gibberish.... I change my oil EVERY 3K miles w/ Valvoline Max Life, and the engine does not burn or leak a single drop of oil w/ 135K miles on the clock. And yes I take the engine to redline or close to it at least once a day or at least once every time I drive it.

Might be so, I've never looked closely at their new tri-syn formula. But even still I'm sure it is not built like RedLine oils.
Anyways PattrickGSR brings up a good point, any oil when changed at aggressive intervals will work well. I also use Max Life at 2500-3000 intervals.
If I know I'm going to see more track use I switch to RedLine

They are adverstised as synthetic to make money. Most people don't know the difference or care.
