How to be dropped and still smooth
I'm in the market for lowering my car an inch or so, but I need to know which parts to buy that will lower my car and have a smooth ride. I've been in cars that are dropped an inch or so and I swear its like riding over railroad tracks all day long.
I don't want the drop to be permanent, so I am looking for something adjustable.
TIA

an inch wont be very noticable... u can lower your car an inch any way and wont notice a dif in ride... my gf's car is lowered about two inches on hacked springs and rides smoooth...
but best way to go would be full bodied coilovers, like Tien's.. u can prolly find them for like 700 now i think.

You shouldn't use hacked springs; If your gs hits a large bump/pot hole the spring could dislodge and cause the car to veer.
And I think Teins seem to be the best aftermarket soilovers going. Fully adjustable

I was thinking more along the lines of Ground Control coilovers with KYB AGX Adjustable gas shocks. Would those do the job and keep the smooth ride? I really can't picture myself shelling out $700+ for Teins just to drop my car an inch or so.

all i can say is you'll get what you pay for, whether that be just lowering or lowered with comfort, lowering with adjustable everything.
Just depends on your purpose, what the car will be used for. The teins Will Last, They Will Perform, and they are adjustable so can be usedwith many different applications in mind (comfort, show, autocross etc)

If you are going to spend 500-600 for gc and kyb's I would save a little more and get the tein's. It will be well worth the wait. A Ground control kit will run 250-300 and a set of kyb agx will run 300-350. Teins are made to work as a complete unit. Go with the teins.

Thats what it may come down to. What model Teins would I be looking into then? Depending on how much those GC and KYB parts are depends whether or not I go Tein. If the prices are pretty much even across the board, then I'll go Tein, but if I'm saving 100+, I'll go combo.

I put KYB non-adjustable shocks with a set of cheap Nopi brand coilovers on the wife's 97 Civic. I couldn't believe how good the ride was! You can feel it's a bit stiffer but it's nice to feel the road better. Trust me, it does not ride like a low rider pickup truck! I dropped it 2.5 inches with fr & rr camber kits. Give it a try!

I just dropped my '98 civic with gc's and kyb agx shock/struts and also added front and rear ingalls camber kit to the setup. I dropped my ride height around 2" and it rides much more stiffer than stock but not too bad. The lower you go the stiffer and less smooth the ride will be.

IMO the way to keep it smooth is to use quality parts. If I were you I'd use H&R springs, they dont lower too much, they would work well with KYB's and they feel great, no railroad BS. I think they go good with 17's, keep it smooth, and still maintain a decent height that you can drive comfortably.

if your positive you want 17s then quality springs and struts are a must, like most have recommended so far. also, do not get polyurethane bushings. they, with the 17s and stiffer springs, will make you feel everything on the road.

So what is that piece of pipe supposed to do?

Springs will make the ride firmer. I have'nt heard of any lowering springs that will make your ride smoother.
Coilovers will make your ride, from soft to stiff at the expense of cost compared to lowering springs. The results are like night and day.
If you can shell out the cash, get coilovers

the coilovers are all the way down on 99/00si's w/ 195/50 kumho tires. rub slighty when turning the wheel all the way - nothing serious though.

Eibach prokit!!! it feel stiffer than stock I am also running tokico illumina shocks. just a few days ago I had generic ebay coil overs and it was teh worst experience ever. ever bump I hit the car bounced hard. then I put on teh eibachs and its as good as stock. and Im still on 14 inch stock wheels. it can only get better with the new wheels.

Re: (Boostage)
god teins are over-rated.
Why anyone would recommending coilovers that have 448/336ft/lbs linear springs, to someone who wants a nice ride quality, I don't know.
If you think teins are the best coil overs you need to do some research. JIC/Zeal/Buddy Club/HKS/N1's/etc/etc/etc no one mentions them
If you want a nice ride, get a progressive rate, soft, custom rate ground control. Match them with a decent shock, (Koni red/yellow).
